If you're an electronic music fan, festival anthems are right up there with sandals, beach towels and the smell of wet grass as one of the things that make you feel like spring is in the air. Vicetone's no stranger to putting out exactly those kinds of tracks, as evidenced by their Pia Toscano collaboration, "Siren."
Swedish EDM superstar Avicii has announced what will be his final tour dates in 2016. The "Wake Me Up" producer announced his retirement from touring in a heartfelt statement last week, citing health problems stemming from his rigorous touring schedule as the primary reasons for his decision.
As per usual, Hardwell's been a releasing machine so far in 2016. After teaming up with Portuguese progressive house artist Kura on last week's "Calavera," he's already put out a remix of Alan Walker's late 2015 release, "Faded."
Looks like we've all learned something today: If you throw away your street cred as an artist to team up with a world-famous pop star on a track for no other conceivable reason than because it'll sell copies, it probably will. Jack Ü and Justin Bieber's "Where Are Ü Now" has officially gone triple platinum.
So far in 2016, deadmau5 has spared no expense in giving his fans a window into his creative process. The progressive house provocateur has uploaded works in progress to his SoundCloud account at a break neck pace, perhaps using their reactions as a dowsing rod to determine what direction he ought to take each production.
Don Diablo hatched a genius plan for his upcoming release: He's only teased the good part. For how successful of a year 2015 turned out to be for him, the Hexagon Records label head's own productions are prone to eccentricities that render them nearly unlistenable - but this clip of his Dave Thomas Jr. collaboration, "Silence," is too short to get to that part.
Word on the street is that the main stage might be collapsing, and EDM artists the world over are scrambling to stay out of its footprint. Sander Van Doorn had already gotten a head start on diversifying his sound with last year's "Ori Tali Ma," and he's further tested the boundaries of progressive house with Gregor Salto collaboration, "Tribal."
Unfortunate news for Australian electronic music fans reaches the EDM blogosphere this week. Touring music festival Stereosonic has been cancelled in 2016, and it's rumored that later installments of the festival have been postponed indefinitely as well.
Well, this sure is awkward. I just got done writing about how lousy of an artist I think Avicii is, but he dropped a track that I don't particularly mind all that much.
For whatever reason, Avicii's retirement from touring is being heralded as some sort of harbinger of an EDM end of times. Forget that the Swedish DJ/producer has cancelled all of his upcoming tour dates once a year for the past two years, or that everyone in the industry knows he would be nothing without his meat puppeteer, Ash Pournouri - disco has to be dead for real this time, right?
