I think, though I am not positive, that Hollywood is very slowly attempting to adapt the collective childhood of my generation to the big screen. Next on the dock? The Choose Your Own Adventure books, that popular series of the 1980s and 90s, which will be transformed into a film series.
It was only a matter of time before Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid got tossed onto the live-action fairy tale bandwagon. Now that film, which has been in the works for awhile now, is talking about getting another rewrite … by the same screenwriter who wrote the 50 Shades Of Grey film.
I continue to feel that Ed Helms is better than the material he’s been offered in recent years. He’s certainly better than The Hangover franchise, and more interesting than his Office character. Maybe he will finally get some material worthy of him as he joins Joe Carnahan’s upcoming film Stretch, alongside Patrick Wilson.
It’s a sad day for Harry and Lloyd. Despite some good press and a bit of generated excitement, Warner Brothers has pulled the plug on the Dumb And Dumber sequel, Dumb And Dumber To.
If there is one actor that I can actually imagine playing Hercules, it’s probably Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. That’s exactly what Brett Ratner thought too, when he cast Johnson in his upcoming film Hercules. The project has just started filming in Hungary and as a result we finally have a cast list and plot synopsis.
Roland Emmerich has not been a favorite director of mine since the one-two-three punch of dumbness called The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, and Anonymous. With the upcoming White House Down, though, there’s a good chance that he might step back into my good graces.
I do not think anyone can accuse James Franco of not doing interesting things with his time. Between being a director, writer, actor, artist and wizard, I wonder when he has time to do things like sleep, or breathe. Franco’s most recent foray into the ‘is it art or is it pretension?’ world is his art installation ‘Psycho Nacirema’ at London’s Pace Gallery. The installation is not quite an homage to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho, but rather an investigation of the questions and concerns that the movie inspires.
The cast list for The Expendables 3 has expanded almost as much as Sylvester Stallone’s biceps, what with Milla Jovovich in talks, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, and rumors abounding about Steven Seagal. But one of the most persistent rumors has been about Mel Gibson. Well, now we have – kind of – confirmation that ol’ Mel will indeed be appearing in The Expendables 3 … as the villain.
Let’s face it: Javier Bardem is awesome. He was one of the better Bond baddies in Skyfall, he was a cold hard psychopath in No Country For Old Men, and he’s married to Penelope Cruz. With upcoming roles in The Counselor and his recent turn in To The Wonder, the guy pretty much spends his time being awesome. Now Javier Bardem has signed on for two new films: The Gunman and A Most Violent Year.
When I think, “What comic books really need to be adapted to the big screen," my immediate response is “Archie!” At least, that’s what Warner Brothers is banking on, as the studio recently closed a deal to produce a live-action version of the on-going and popular comic series.
