I need to ask Hollywood a question. I know they won't answer me, but I really need to ask it, so here it goes: Why do you adapt material if all you plan on doing is shitting all over it? It has happened countless times with amazing books (I Am Legend, as a perfect example) and now it is happening more and more with comic book movies, too. Studios are handed perfect source material, and they feel the need to make it all more "Hollywood." Often, in that process, they seem to lose sight of the very core ideas of the comic books they are adapting.
There you have it, folks. The new look of the Joker for Suicide Squad. Ever since it was revealed over the weekend, opinions on it have been divided right down the middle. Some people think he looks psychotic and interesting, and dig how the shot is clearly an homage to the iconic Killing Joke Joker illustration. On the other hand, though, some people think he looks like he is squarely aimed at the Hot Topic target demo and that he too closely resembles Marilyn Manson than the Joker we all know and love and fear.
From indie gems no one has heard about to massive movies adding to their franchise's lore, here are five movies arriving in 2015 that we are really looking forward to.
Here is the biggest problem with movies nowadays: trailers and hype. With the internet always aflutter about what the next big film will be, and studios ramming ads down your throat constantly both consciously and subconsciously, it is hard not to get swept up in the excitement about a particular movie, especially when it seems that mainstream media is really pushing the agenda of that movie on the masses.
The holidays suck. I know I'm starting this article off with a jump kick of an opinion, but they really do. We run around like insane people, going from house to house, visiting people who we feel obligated to visit (usually once a year) and we all spend too much and eat too much. Also, the consumerist angle of it is exasperating. We all start the new year stressed out because we had to buy things for people we love. WHY? No one really knows, but between that and the driving and the hosting of parties and the blah blah blah, we end the holiday season wishing for the sweet release of death. Well, at least I do.
A big allure of gaming is the idea of escaping just how mundane and repetitive life can be. We long to step outside of that and experience a life more exciting and visceral than our own. Video games give us that. They put us in the space armor or give us massive guns and armies of bad guys to slaughter with them. The reality is, video games make you feel kind of badass, and that's awesome.
I can completely understand that people who are diehard fans of certain video game franchises will be pissed off by this article. Please remember, though, it is an opinion piece (like most articles you'll find on the web), so rather than find out where I live and try to kill me for insulting one of your favorite franchises, why not just take to the comments after having read the entire piece and rationally tell me why you disagree with my theory about that particular franchise? Just a thought.
