At the beginning of the new year, Disney Plus customers were outraged that the streaming site had pulled a number of titles including Home Alone 1 and 2, Dr. Dolittle and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Unlike other streaming competitors like Netflix and Hulu, Disney owns all of the content they put on the service. So why would they pull anything?
Now that we know Captain Marvel 2 is officially in development, information on the sequel is beginning to become more clear. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who both co-wrote and directed the first film, will not be returning. They will, however, stay on as producers and are reportedly in talks to direct a Disney Plus series. As such, Marvel is now said to be looking for a female director to step into the chair for the follow-up.
After acquiring Fox, Disney reportedly wants some of the original X-Men to cameo in Deadpool 3, with the Merc making fun of them for not being in the MCU.
I think it’s safe to say directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are having a great year so far. Who are they, you might ask? Well, they’re the hot new filmmakers behind Bad Boys for Life, the third installment in the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence buddy cop franchise, which is exceeding all expectations both financially and critically.
Hugh Jackman will never play Wolverine again. Or so says Patrick Stewart, who recently revealed that he won't return to the X-Men franchise either and stated that the only seat he plans to be sitting in is from the bridge of his new show, Star Trek: Picard.
Production on Godzilla Vs. Kong has been rocky, to say the least. The blockbuster movie was originally set for a March release, but due to heavy reshoots following poor test screenings, the date was delayed by eight months to November.
Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito, will have a much bigger role in season two of The Mandalorian. The last we saw of him, he was escaping from a crashed TIE fighter following an epic fight with Mando. During the final scene, it’s also revealed that his character has in his possession the Darksaber.
Remember a few months ago when Disney CEO Bob Iger said they were going to slow down the assembly line that is Star Wars? Following the divisiveness over Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the dismal box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Iger felt it was time to pump the breaks on Star Wars releases and get back to making them feel special again. I wonder how he feels after the reaction to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker?
To say the reaction from fans over the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot was a low point for the internet would be an understatement. Even before its release, folks were outraged that a new iteration, starring women and ignoring the original two, was being made. And the fans certainly took out their anger on the stars and in particular, Leslie Jones. So much so that Jones quit Twitter briefly due to the harassment.
