Despite Dark Phoenix suffering awful reviews and going on to become the biggest box office bomb of last year, fans are still fully onboard with the X-Men getting rebooted once again, but only because the mutants are under new ownership. Fox's time at the helm of the franchise was marked with inconsistency, which is hardly surprising given that there were sequels, reboots, sequels to reboots, spinoffs and thinly-veiled remakes involved at various points, and based on how the last installment turned out it looked as though the well was starting to run more than a little dry.

Deadpool Will Reportedly Be The Only One Who Knows Heā€™s Been Rebooted In The MCU
When Disney finally completed their protracted takeover of Fox, comic book fans were overjoyed that Marvel Studios were finally in possession of the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. As well as further strengthening the MCU's roster of heroes, there was also renewed hope that the characters would be done justice after both Dark Phoenix and Josh Trank's Fantastic Four tanked at the box office following dismal reviews.

[SPOILERS] Will Reportedly Replace Weasel As Deadpool 3ā€™s Comic Relief
You could argue that a character like Deadpool doesn't exactly need a comedy sidekick, given that a lot of the Merc with a Mouth's appeal comes from his unique brand of self-aware and irreverent humor. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts more than a few supporting players that exist solely for laughs, and while the R-rated antihero is an entirely different proposition for the studio, it seems inevitable that the in-development third installment is set to adhere to the in-house formula in at least a few ways.

Netflix have been making some serious inroads into the blockbuster game in recent years, with Michael Bay's $150 millionĀ 6 Underground replicating the action auteur's typical formula of mixed reviews and huge audiences, while Chris Hemsworth's Extraction recently debuted on the streaming service to a hugely positive reception.
