It really is the end of the saga for George Lucas, who recently stunned the world when he sold LucasFilm to Disney for $4 billion. And now the 68-year-old billionaire and, uh, Red Tails producer has announced that he won't help to pick a new director for the upcoming trilogy (set to kick-off in 2015). In the words of Jar-Jar Binks (and in a reference that absolutely nobody will enjoy), "Phoo-eee!"
Ever since the good old days when Michael Jackson was beloved by all and music videos hadn't been 13-minute long short films until Thriller shocked the world over, dancing zombies have been the epitome of cool. Well, we think so, anyway.
And for all those human beings out there that do love the Muppets and are herby declared "normal", there's been a few announcements made regarding the upcoming sequel to Disney's 2011 musical extravaganza The Muppets.
Sylvester Stallone has succeeded once again in his on-going mission to cast anybody who ever threw a punch during the course of any film in one of his Expendables movies: Nicolas Cage (that guy that used to be an actor and is now something else entirely) has signed on to star in the The Expendables 3. Cue sounds of explosions overdubbed with ridiculous Nic Cage quote (eg. "Not the bees").
Because nothing is sacred, and because all stories must continue if their characters didn't, like, die at the end, it's been reported that Warner Bros. are trying to get a sequel to Casablanca - one of the most beloved motion pictures of all-time - into the works. Here's to ruining your legacy, kid.
Is it us, or does saying that a movie will end in a twist kind of ruin the fact that, um, there's gonna be a twist? Taylor Lautner doesn't think so. Recently speaking with Jay Leno about the upcoming Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, Lautner had this to say:
All the way out there in the far reaches of Shrugsville sits the option for a Castle Wolfenstein adaptation. Don't get us wrong: a great set of games, but are we really in need of another video game turned movie hackjob? The results so far haven't been exactly... promising.
Though Wes Anderson's films are renowned for the innate retroness that constantly forces them through a warped time tunnel of all things future-past and quirkily cool, he's never actually made a film set in the "old days."
Now this is exciting. Though we've been already been treated to teasers, trailers, posters and behind-the-scenes production videos, actually getting to see soundtrack artwork and a tracklisting really puts this whole thing into perspective: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey isn't far off, people, and it's going to be epic.
What was George Lucas going to do with $4 billion, anyway? The Star Wars creator, now 68, recently sold his entire company LucasFilm to Disney for $4.5 billion. Given that Lucas owned the entire company himself, the man got to take all the profit himself. Though everybody kind of wondered if anybody needed that kind of cash, Lucas has announced his (genuinely admirable) decision to donate most of it to education charities.
