BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim rumored to star in an MCU project that’s not even in the works, but no one knows why

Let's not "shut it down" just yet.

BLACKPINK is already famous enough without Jennie Kim getting a potential deal with Marvel. The four-member K-pop group formed back in 2016, then went on to become the biggest Korean girl group internationally. There were originally nine members of BLACKPINK, which was then known as PUNK PINK, but nowadays, the only members are lead vocalist Jennie Kim, main dancer Lisa, and vocalists Jisoo and Rosé. The word on the grapevine is that Kim will be cast in an upcoming Marvel TV series called Agents of Atlas, which isn’t actually happening, but K-pop fans are consistently spreading the rumor like wildfire.

The real Agents of Atlas, which exist in Marvel Comics lore, were formed by Jimmy Woo to rescue President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The group consists of Jimmy Woo, Namora, Gorilla-Man, Human Robot, Uranian, and Venus. Further members include Aero, Brawn, Crescent and Io, Pele, Shang-Chi, Silk, Sword Master, Wave, White Fox, and Luna Snow, the latter of whom Jennie Kim will supposedly portray. One defensive Marvel fan took to Reddit to share their distaste towards such a rumor, claiming that “K-pop stans are wild.”

Surprisingly, the comments are pretty split down the middle. Some Redditors don’t mind the idea of Kim playing Luna Snow, whereas others would prefer to keep K-pop idols where they belong — in the music industry. Jennie Kim recently landed her first-ever acting role in the TV drama series The Idol, playing Jocelyn alongside Lily-Rose Depp as the same character (you’ll have to watch it for yourself to understand that one).

Although it’s still early days for The Idol, which debuted on HBO (now known as Max) on June 4, reviews have been generally favorable and a lot of viewers are praising Kim’s acting abilities, even though she doesn’t originate from that sector of entertainment. But as Harry Styles and Frank Sinatra have proven, it isn’t uncommon for musicians to migrate to the world of acting once their passion for songwriting dies down.

There’s no official word on whether or not ‘Agents of Atlas’ is actually happening, but if it does, maybe we’ll have to keep an open mind for Jennie Kim, who seems to be rocking it solo.
