Dwayne Johnson’s wholesome Oscars selfie with Ke Huy Quan might be proof he’s done with the DCU for good

Those DCU waters are looking more than a little rocky.

From Jamie Lee Curtis pulling a Best Supporting Actress upset to Jimmy Kimmel cracking a questionable In Memoriam joke, the 2023 Oscars were full of jaw-dropping moments which re-ignited our ability to invest in Hollywood celebrities. But perhaps the most interesting moment to come out of the Oscars has to do with an undoubtedly wholesome selfie between newly-crowned Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan and former DC superstar Dwayne Johnson.

During the ceremony, Quan found himself embracing his personality as a kid in the proverbial candy store as he went around taking selfies with a broad range of celebrities — both old friends and new acquaintances. Out of those selfies, one in particular that stood out from the rest was Quan’s selfie with Johnson — but maybe not for reasons you’d think.

By now, it’s common knowledge The Rock and the DCU have been heading towards a permanent split — with a whirlwind of negative Black Adam reviews still hanging like a dark cloud over the blockbuster actor’s head. Interestingly, Johnson was in fact all smiles for his selfie with Quan — who is expected to make his much-anticipated debut in the MCU in season two of Loki.

And while Johnson being done with the DCU was pretty much a given at this point, the deep appreciation and happiness shared between him and Quan might be a good indication he’s now becoming closer with Marvel stars and drawing up plans to join the massive cinematic universe at some point in the future. It’s purely speculation, of course, but Johnson sharing smiles with those outside of the DCU bubble isn’t exactly a great thing for James Gunn and company.
