Jamie Foxx is reportedly undergoing physical rehabilitation at a medical centre in Chicago after suffering from an as-yet unknown health scare last month. According to TMZ, the actor is receiving treatment at what’s been described as one of the best physical medicine and rehabilitation centers in the country, with his two daughters and ex-girlfriend spotted visiting him in Chicago.
The Django Unchained star’s daughters, Corinne and Anelise, as well as Anelise’s mother, Kristin Grannis, were all seen in Chicago over the weekend. Per TMZ, the physical rehabilitation centre specializes in stroke recovery, cancer rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury recovery and spinal cord injury rehab, though the exact complication that led to Foxx’s admission remains unclear.
There are signs Foxx is alert and active, as his daughters were seen carrying flowers, balloons and a guitar into the facility. Sources have reportedly told TMZ that the actor is “recovering well,” after transferring to Chicago from his initial treatment in Atlanta immediately after the health scare. The development comes a little over a month since news first broke that Foxx had been hospitalized for what his family described at the time as a “medical complication.”
Foxx was in Atlanta filming the upcoming Netflix comedy Back in Action, which is also set to star Cameron Diaz in a hiatus-ending role after almost a decade off the screen. At the time, Foxx’s daughter Corinne explained that the actor was “already on his way to recovery,” before revealing earlier this month that he “has been out of the hospital for weeks.” TMZ’s report indicates that the actor has since moved to a rehabilitation facility, though Foxx himself has updated fans on his health.
“Appreciate all the love!!!”, the Ray star wrote on Instagram, “Feeling blessed.” The Guardian reports that Foxx had been replaced on the set of Back in Action by body doubles and stand-ins, with the production having since wrapped filming. The movie is directed by Seth Gordon, who previously worked with Foxx on the 2011 comedy Horrible Bosses. Diaz and Foxx elsewhere co-starred in 2014’s Annie.
The actor is elsewhere set to appear in upcoming titles They Cloned Tyrone, God Is a Bullet and Strays, the last of which also stars Will Ferrell, Isla Fisher and Will Forte, among others.
