What is the ‘SUGA: Road To D-Day’ Disney Plus documentary about?

Another gift heading to ARMY's way.

Not even a temporary hiatus from group activities stops BTS members from continuously raining gifts upon their fans. In July 2022, the (arguably) most popular South Korean K-Pop group announced their imminent break as they opted to focus on mandatory conscription, while each member seeks to find their individuality away from the shelter they’ve known for the past ten years.

For the past few months, since the heartbreaking announcement, BTS has brought a slew of offerings for the fans. With three albums, several TV show cameos, movie concerts airing in theatres, and even an already-released docu-series, BTS has been relentlessly working to show fans their individual projects, focused on one member at a time. The ginormous demand resulting from their stratospheric success has developed, once again, in one more announcement: a Disney Plus documentary focused on the lead rapper, Suga.

What is ‘SUGA: Road to D-Day’ about?

While not much has been revealed when it comes to the upcoming documentary, fans will experience a similar project to that of one other familiar rapper. J-Hope in the Box, the documentary recently released on Disney Plus, focuses on J-Hope’s album-making process, and all the struggles and hurdles of producing and writing an entire album from start to finish, away from his friends and colleagues BTS. Although slightly different, Suga’s documentary will follow a similar approach.

As per the information revealed on Billboard Japan, SUGA: Road to D-Day will focus on his individual quest for a new dream and passion, as he works on finding himself as an artist, independently from BTS. The documentary will explore Suga’s life as he works on producing a new solo work — precedented by his two mixtapes as his solo persona, Agust D — and his adventurous life in Malibu, San Francisco, and Tokyo, as the musician seeks a new musical journey in search of new sounds and “unprecedented experiences.”Fans will also be able to see Suga interacting with artists, fans, and a wide assortment of people around the world, as he experiences and interiorizes new cultures and traditions.

Aside from his traveling endeavors, the announcement by the Japanese website also lets on that everyone will see a new side to the stoic face behind BTS’ rapper and producer. Most fans, albeit familiar with Suga’s cheery disposition from time to time, will have a new opportunity to find the musician’s real self behind the limelight once more. Moreover, the documentary will also depict the rapper’s life as he plans a worldwide solo tour — as the first BTS member to achieve the milestone of leading his own tour.

Apparently, fans will also be able to find Suga driving a car in the middle of the desert — whatever that cryptic information may mean. Despite the little information released by Disney Plus, one thing is for certain: every single BTS fan will undoubtedly tune in for this new glimpse into Suga’s life.
