DC Announces Batman And Harley Quinn Prequel Comic

Lately, there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Batman and Harley Quinn, and understandably so. Aside from being the next DC animated film to arrive in what’s already been a solid year for the line, it unites two of the most popular characters in comics right now under the watch of the Clown Princess of Crime’s co-creator, Bruce Timm. Suffice it to say, when one of the minds behind Batman: The Animated Series is attached to a project, it’s going to instil some consumer confidence.

Now, if you’ve been keeping up to date with all the latest news regarding the movie (or just watched the trailer embedded at the top), then you’ve no doubt noticed a reprisal of the visual style The New Batman Adventures (or the “revamp episodes,” as they’re sometimes called) were known for.

To our delight, DC will continue appealing to Batfans’ nostalgia by delving deeper into that world with an all-new digital first prequel series set to launch on Monday, July 31. Titled Harley Quinn and Batman, this five-part tale will arrive on a bi-weekly basis, and will be available for download via the DC Comics App, readdcentertainment.com, iBooks, comiXology.com, Google Play, Kindle Store and Nook Store.

Here’s the synopsis that’s been given:

It’s the team-up we’ve been dreaming of as the cute psychopath Harley Quinn joins the brooding Dark Knight for a brand-new Digital First comic series, HARLEY QUINN AND BATMAN. The series, from Batman writer Ty Templeton and artist Rick Burchett, is an exciting new five-chapter prequel adventure to the Batman And Harley Quinn animated film coming out this August from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Harley Quinn is a legend in her own mind, so when she realizes the Joker thinks of her as a sidekick, she takes her revenge. Harley’s now faced with a hard decision to break out as her own super-villain, and she’s willing to go for it!

If the names of Ty Templeton and Rick Burchett sound familiar to you, they should, because those same Eisner Award-winning creators brought us some beloved animated series tie-ins in the past in the form of Batman & Robin Adventures and Batman: The Gotham Adventures.

Beyond that, a seven-part followup will begin on a weekly basis in October. Just like the movie, it’ll be titled Batman and Harley Quinn, and will be brought to us by a variety of talents such as Jeff Parker, Craig Rousseau, Luciano Vecchio, Amanda Deibert, David Hahn, Dario Brizuela, Matthew Dow Smith, Sandy Jarrell, Ty Templeton and more. If you’re waiting for a physical copy, know that all twelve chapters will be collected into a trade paperback that’ll arrive sometime during Summer 2018.
