The Death Of A Hero Is Teased In The Mighty Thor #705 First Look

Without a doubt, the past decade has been a time for legacy heroes to shine. Whether it be Dick Grayson taking up the mantle of Batman or Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson wielding the shield as Captain America, the comic book world sure has seen its share of exciting shakeups.

But one in particular got a good deal of mainstream attention when Jane Foster took up Mjolnir, thus becoming the Mighty Thor. The bold creative move was controversial, definitely, but series writer Jason Aaron has enjoyed his share of supporters, not to mention inspiring a cosplayer or two along the way.

But, as was to be expected, everything that has a beginning has an end, and so, too, must conclude Jane Foster’s run as Thor. Actually, it’s all a bit ominous, as Marvel teases the following:

“The world of Mighty Thor and Odinson has been turned upside down, literally and figuratively — the Mangog’s attack on Asgardia has left the realm, and the gods who inhabit it, decimated. And the Mangog isn’t done yet! While Odinson’s responsibility is to protect his people, Mighty Thor must make a choice: fight Mangog by picking up Mjolnir – which guarantees that Jane Foster will perish – or watch the world fall. There is no choice…”

We were also told that we’d “witness the death of a hero” in the press release, so we doubt the House of Ideas is yanking our chain. To be honest, something like this was to be expected. With Thor: Ragnarok making a crap ton of money at the box office, it’s only natural that the comics veer back to the familiar.

The Mighty Thor #705 arrives in stores on March 21st. In the meantime, be sure to browse the accompanying gallery above for a first look at some of Russell Dauterman’s pencils.
