Legendary Marks Skull Island: The Birth Of Kong’s Launch With Intense Trailer

Although pitting gargantuan monsters against each other on film is nothing new, you have to tip your hat to The Avengers for the positive effect it had on modern American cinema. It seems like everyone is now getting in on the shared universe concept and, if you love Kaiju, it's certainly an exciting time to be alive. With Kong: Skull Island now behind us, our attention turns toward 2019’s Godzilla sequel (fingers crossed for a Jet Jaguar appearance) and 2020’s Godzilla vs. Kong, which we’re guessing will be bereft of “Martha.”

But before those arrive, Legendary Comics intend to further flesh out the MonsterVerse with the four-issue limited series, Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, which is set to delve further into the mystery of the island itself as well as showing how Kong became king. I’m well aware that I just made it sound like a taut political thriller, but it should be no less intriguing, regardless.

Not long ago, we brought you some of the first preview images to surface in advance of the book’s release and, today, we’re able to take it a step further with a sweet new trailer Legendary has put together that can be viewed at the top.

Skull Island: The Birth of Kong is now available digitally and in comic shops. For more information, be sure to check out the synopsis below:

Both a sequel and a prequel to the film, the series is a father/son story set against the epic backdrop of Skull Island. The story stars Houston Brooks (played by Corey Hawkins in the film) and his son Aaron Brooks — both Monarch operatives, who disagree over the threat Skull Island represents to humanity. Aaron leads a secret team of Monarch operatives back to Skull Island to discover the truth behind Kong and the island he is born to protect. In doing so, they unlock an ancient history of monster conflict, witness the primal war between Kong and an otherworldly ecosystem of deadly new creatures, and finally reveal how this lonely god became the last of his kind.
