With the third issue of Justice League vs. Suicide Squad set to drop this week, it’s important that we not forget the first major tie-in to the mini-series is also on its way in the form of Justice League #12.
Like any good fan of comic books who lacks the virtue of patience, I follow solicitations. For those unfamiliar, these synopses and cover reveals allow readers and retailers to know what’s to come from major publishers three months in advance. And, seeing as how there’s such generous notice, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility to receive vague and sometimes redacted descriptions such as these:
A “JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD” tie-in! Behold the rebirth of one of the DC Universe’s most cunning villains as [REDACTED].
Thanks to this newly released preview, we now know that the focus is placed on Maxwell Lord, the mastermind behind the threat in Justice League vs. Suicide Squad. Acting as a prequel of sorts to the crossover event, this issue looks to take the spotlight off DC’s premier superhero team and instead place it on the villain himself. It’s a bold move, but may offer a compelling read regardless.
Something else to be aware of is that regular series writer Bryan Hitch is sitting it out this month and Tim Seeley, who’s currently on a hot streak with Nightwing and Veritgo’s The Lost Boys, is in. Joining him on art is Christian Duce Fernandez and, we must say, he’s doing quite a good job of bringing what looks to be such a tension filled scene involving Lord and Amanda Waller to life.
Justice League #12 arrives in comic shops this Wednesday, January 4.
