Twitch streamer catches cop sleeping on duty outside White House, cartoons playing on work laptop

This cop is about to have a real bad day.

You would think that cops around the White House would be on particularly high alert right now. After all, it was only hours ago that a gunman attempted to storm the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, with the apparent intention of filling Donald Trump with lead.

So it’s something of a surprise to see a Twitch streamer discovering a DC cop snoozing in his car while on duty right outside the White House, with the animated show Invincible playing on his police laptop:

The streamer, elythepeoplesguy, approaches the police cruiser, astonished at “the cop that’s sleeping in front of the White House!” They approach the car, whispering that “Trump is crazy hiring these people!”

Then, in a somewhat bold move, they firmly knock on the cop’s window to rouse him from his slumber: “Sir! You mind waking up, brother? That’s not what they pay you for, what you doing sleeping?”

The dozy cop bashfully apologizes, only for the streamer to point out: “You’re sorry?! You’re watching the White House, my G.” He then presses him for his name and badge number, with the cop visibly realizing that he’s about to be in big trouble for this.

He estimates he’s been asleep for “ten minutes” and is reminded “you’re supposed to be watching the president, bro. If I got a bomb or some s–t I just blow everybody up because you’re sleeping my G!” He then demands to speak to his sergeant, saying he’s going to make a report.

Telling off a cop takes some guts…

It’s hard not to feel a little sympathy for this hapless cop. Who amongst us has not been tempted to nap at work? Or maybe watch some YouTube while the boss isn’t looking? But, let’s face it, it’s hardly a good look to be caught taking a nap in front of the White House on the same weekend as an assassination attempt on the president.

Reactions were mixed, with one saying that this is none of their business:

Others demand that cops be replaced by, uh, violent mercs:

I’m assuming this particular cop is getting one heck of a dressing down from his superior right now, likely with desks being thumped and him being threatened with being busted down to directing traffic (I’m assuming cop movies are accurate about this kind of thing). Here’s hoping this cop takes this on board – and maybe packs some energy drinks next time they go on patrol.
