10 Horror Characters Who Should Join Mortal Kombat X’s Next DLC Pack

Horror fans have long been demanding a video game brawler that pits their favorite villains against one another, yet no developer has fully stepped up to the challenge. There's a downloadable title called Terrordrome: Rise Of The Boogeymen available on the internet, but it's simply a fan-made effort with plenty of restraints and glitches. No fully-funded title has ever been able to let Freddy vs. Jason become a virtual reality, at least not until the Mortal Kombat franchise started incorporating famed frighteners into their roster of champion warriors. Mortal Kombat X has already introduced Jason Voorhees and Predator, and an upcoming DLC pack (which you can check out in the video above) will throw Leatherface and an alien Xenomorph in the mix. While staying faithful to franchise fans, it seems that NetherRealm Studios is here to answer the prayers of horror-loving, genre-obsessed gamers. So now for the fun part - toying around with the possible horror icons who could be competitive in Mortal Kombat's constant battle to the death. It's not as easy as you'd assume. There are some heavy horror favorites that I wouldn't let anywhere near Mortal Kombat, because they just wouldn't compare. I'm a huge Chucky fan, yet his tiny, fragile state would make him an absolutely useless fighter. There's a reason why Ferra fights with Torr - and Chucky has no Torr. Same goes for Leprechaun, sadly. So who would make a good Kombatant? What unstoppable nightmares could make the likes of Johnny Cage and Raiden shake in their boots? Who could take the punishing blows from Jackson Briggs, or Kotal Kahn's searing sun beam? There are plenty of worthy fighters, but here are ten fun picks who could throw down with the best in Mortal Kombat X - if you're listening, NetherRealm Studios. 1) Pinhead Here you've got a sorcerer of sorts, much like the mystic Shinnock. Hellraiser's Pinhead takes pleasure in torturing fleshy souls, as chains stretch skin apart like Silly Putty. He's more about convincing victims into painful scenarios, and using a Lemarchand's Box box referred to as the Lament Configuration to open a hellish door to nastier realities. Pinheads's fighting style would be that of a summoner, dealing weaker physical blows in lieu of summoned attacks of a more underworldly nature. You've got to think binding chains would play a pretty big part in Pinhead's special combos, either restraining opposing forces for a few free shots, or lashing out like iron-weighted whips. Maybe a crushing headbutt with his spiky head acting as his bone-crunching special move? In the way of finishers, again, those chains have to come flying out, tearing the loser limb-from-limb as Pinhead offers a few words of soulless wisdom. C'mon, how doesn't that sound like a blast? 2) Victor Crowley Hatchet star Victor Crowley could pretty much be a clone of Jason's fighting style, but these are the kind of horror villains who'd fit best in Mortal Kombat's universe. Crowley is just a mean, lean, Southern sonofabitch who would be a hell of a lot of fun to play around with. Wielding his signature axe, Crowley could be a menacing foe in the Netherrealm. He doesn't die, he doesn't stop, and more importantly, Crowley represents a newer face in the horror genre who commands the same kind of respect that 80s slasher icons once did. Special moves would be pretty simple, but pretty brutal as well. Thinking back to the plethora of deaths that Crowley deals throughout Adam Green's franchise, you'd have to think that a few different axe swings would be incorporated into some head-snapping combos. Dive deeper, and you've got a few different fatalities that would be more than deserving. How about when he rips Shannon's jaw open (although Briggs already has a similar fatality), or when he uses the power sander on a poor girl's jaw? Personally, I'd love to see his comically-large chainsaw tear through a hilarious fatality cutscene - a gamer can dream. 3) Cassie Hack/Vlad I'm a huge Hack/Slash fanboy, and since we haven't gotten our movie yet, why not let Cassie come into the Mortal Kombat story so she can help Earth fight against Netherrealm's nastiest? She's a fighter in her own right, but relies on her bigger sidekick Vlad to help with some bigger battles. I'd love if Mortal Kombat could find a way to integrate both of them into the same battles, maybe where combos are concerned? I don't see Cassie being anywhere as weak as Ferra, but sometimes she needs Vlad to step in anyway. That said, Cassie earns the right to have an individual fatality featuring her signature "Kiss It" baseball bat - hopefully knocking her opponent's head clean off. She's already fought alongside Ash, interacted with Chucky, and served some time with Herbert West, so she's used to tackling famous baddies. Methinks Cassie would be a fighter along the likes of Mileena, but a few combos could deal some pretty hefty blows - especially with Vlad in the picture. C'mon Mortal Kombat, give us Hack/Slash fans something to get excited about! 4) Ashley J. Williams This is the most no-brainer-y pick of the bunch, but it still needs to be said. Ash is an icon who was once suggested to battle both Freddy AND Jason, and his boomstick would do pretty well against the likes of any Mortal Kombat combatant. His taunting nature is made for fighting games, like a distant relative to the wise-cracking Johnny Cage, and his chainsaw could cut through the mightiest of warriors. Can you imagine the insults Ash would be capable of when facing off against Goro? As far as combos go, everything listed already seems to be pretty obvious. Ash's boomstick would work as a ranged attack, the chainsaw could slice through people like Kotal Kahn's blade, and why not let the Necronomicon get a little screen time? Maybe Ash accidentally unleashes a demon on his enemy for a gory fatality, like we've been seeing in Ash Vs. Evil Dead? Sam Raimi's famed hero is a damn legend, and deserves every chance to help Earth fight against Shinnock's destructive attacks. 5) Pumpkinhead This pick comes with poor timing, since Pumpkinhead looks a bit like the Xenomorph, but he'd still be a stellar fighter. After a distraught Lance Henriksen summons the demonic beast, it's Pumpkinhead who goes on a rampage and must be stopped. He's a brute who kills with claws and strength, but I suspect his video game form would be a bit more agile than the rubbery suit used in Stan Winston's film. He'd be a beast from Netherrealm who'd offer some primal tactics, fighting on instinct alone. Considering move sets, we'll have to see how the Xenomorph fights to get an idea about how Pumpkinhead might also maneuver. I'm going to say a lot of quick attacks, slashing opponents with his long claws. He's got a pretty substantial reach, and his razor-like appendages easily slice through victims as far as the film franchise goes. Put together some combos with devastating punctures/slashes, maybe an aerial attack with some punch, and for the grand finale, a fatality featuring Pumpkinhead tearing into victims like they're Judge Dixon in Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings - sounds like victory to me. 6) Michael Myers Haddonfield's heaviest hitter is another no-doubt pick, and Ed Boone admitted that Michael's name has already been tossed around behind the scenes, but this wouldn't be a respectable list without the silent stalker's addition. His mask is a representation of fear, and where Ghostface is more easily defeated, Michael never stays down. With his gigantic knife, he'd be a formidable foe who once again would be fighting much like how Jason's brutish body permits. He'd be slow, deal heavy damage on hits, and would have no reason to speak after destroying opponents with ease. There'd be nothing unexpected with his combos. I'd figure his X-Ray move would include some sort of knife to the skull, or a stab right to the gut. He's a traditional slasher, so his moves wouldn't stray much from stabbing, slicing, and kicking some close-range ass. Maybe he could get a creative fatality, where his victim hides in a nearby closet, only for Michael to throw the door open and go to work. There'd be minimal creativity with Michael's inclusion, but his renown status would be a must-buy for most horror fans who play Mortal Kombat X. Why alter the classics, though. Right? 7) The Toxic Avenger Yes, this is a personal pick because I want to see Toxie kicking the crap out of the worst Netherrealm baddies. This once nerdy janitor evolves into a brutal brawler who can rip his victims apart with ease, and he'd be a powerful asset to Earth's defenders. He's an all-around fighter, not just a pure-strength brute, and his trusty mop is just begging for some comical cut-scenes. These Mortal Kombat games have already turned into something of an overly-gory Troma production themselves, so why not let one of Kaufman's most recognized characters have a go at Shinnock? I know The Toxic Avenger isn't TECHNICALLY horror, but it's got enough outrageous goo to pass as genre fodder in my book. If Toxie ever made it into Mortal Kombat, there'd be so many great fatalities to choose from. A personal favorite would have to be the impromptu ice cream sundae that's made completely in a thug's mouth, followed by the poor criminal's run-in with a milkshake blender. Or maybe he goes simpler and just rips his victim's arm off to be used as a weapon. Let him rock a few combos with his broom or traffic cone, and then when it's time for a fatality, let Kaufman's grindhouse ingenuity shine through - both comically, and gorily. 8) The Wolfman I didn't care much for Benicio Del Toro's take on horror's iconic Wolfman character, but his physical appearance would be the most fitting for Mortal Kombat. Earlier, pre-CGI days painted him as a hairy, normal-ish man, but Del Toro's Wolfman exhibits much more powerful attributes that would be needed when fighting hardened battle veterans. When Del Toro's alter-ego goes full mongrel, he's an unstoppable beast who thirsts for blood with an fierce persistence - much like many other warriors in the Mortal Kombat universe whose sight goes red when entering war. We all know how werewolves act, so you can probably imagine the Wolfman's fighting style would be full-force primal. Quick-paced charges would bowl opponents over while dagger-like claws draw blood through a flurry of swipes. Couple that with fangs that sink in and never let go, and the Wolfman becomes one pesky pet that listens to no master. I don't even want to imagine the ferociousness of a Wolfman brutality, as he makes a meal out of whatever poor bastard can't defeat him. 9) Seth Gecko I wanted From Dusk Till Dawn represented on this list because of its cult popularity, but it was a struggle picking Seth. How much fun would it be to fight as Sex Machine, blasting enemies with your cock gun, or as Frost, spearing enemies with table legs? But, Seth is the only one who stays un-vampified, so he earns the right to fight in Mortal Kombat. Who cares what side he's on - maybe Seth is just looking for his next big score and gets tangled up with some bad Netherrealm dudes? Seth is a brawler and there's no doubt about it. His criminal activities make him a pretty adept fighter, as well as a professional handler of firearms - think Erron Black. Furthermore, he's pretty intuitive and has smarts to boot, which helped him when surrounded by a horde of vampire strippers. One fatality absolutely has to include Seth's jackhammer-stake machine, and plenty of combos can be whipped up with his many combat skills. I'm not saying he's Johnny-Cage-good at martial arts, but he's got enough punch to make his presence known in the tournament. 10) Colonel Herzog What could be more fun than playing as an unstoppable Nazi zombie who will destroy anyone who happens to have a piece of the gold treasure he constantly protects? Well, if any of the Mortal Kombat fighters accidentally/purposely stole Herzog's loot, we'd find out pretty quickly that controlling this undead militant would be something special. He uses a bevy of weapons, but nothing beats some down-and-dirty fisticuffs and old-war fighting techniques. Plus, he's a Nazi zombie - he's built for Netherrealm. Herzog's troops follow him anywhere, so I'm sure a fatality or two could use the addition of his squad. Maybe Vergard's dismemberment, or the machine-gun-mounted snowmobile? These moments would provide some pretty spectacular visuals during a cut scene, much like any tricks from the Colonel's arsenal. Hell, find a way to incorporate the tank Herzog rides in during Dead Snow: Red Vs. Dead, and you have an epic fatality that might be among the franchise's best. Netherrealm wouldn't know what hit it!
