7) The Toxic Avenger
Yes, this is a personal pick because I want to see Toxie kicking the crap out of the worst Netherrealm baddies. This once nerdy janitor evolves into a brutal brawler who can rip his victims apart with ease, and he’d be a powerful asset to Earth’s defenders. He’s an all-around fighter, not just a pure-strength brute, and his trusty mop is just begging for some comical cut-scenes.
These Mortal Kombat games have already turned into something of an overly-gory Troma production themselves, so why not let one of Kaufman’s most recognized characters have a go at Shinnock? I know The Toxic Avenger isn’t TECHNICALLY horror, but it’s got enough outrageous goo to pass as genre fodder in my book.
If Toxie ever made it into Mortal Kombat, there’d be so many great fatalities to choose from. A personal favorite would have to be the impromptu ice cream sundae that’s made completely in a thug’s mouth, followed by the poor criminal’s run-in with a milkshake blender. Or maybe he goes simpler and just rips his victim’s arm off to be used as a weapon. Let him rock a few combos with his broom or traffic cone, and then when it’s time for a fatality, let Kaufman’s grindhouse ingenuity shine through – both comically, and gorily.
