Apex Legends Announces New Ranked Mode For Season 2

Earlier today at their EA Play event, EA pulled back the curtain on Apex Legends Season 2, which will include a new Ranked mode.

Any game developed by the super talented Respawn would be worthy of attention, but it’s probably fair to say that not many people expected Apex Legends to land as hard as it did when it launched earlier this year.

It only took a few weeks for it to hit all sorts of major milestones. 1 million players, 10 million, 25 million, 50 million…you name it. But then something happened. Something very unfortunate.

Respawn seemingly abandoned Apex Legends, dropping an underwhelming content pack for Season 1, which left players starved for meaningful new content. That drought was only made worse by frequent reports of bugs, glitches and cheaters, all of which seemingly left the game on life support. Until today, that is.

Earlier this morning at the EA Play event at E3, the developer pulled back the curtain on Season 2: Battle Charge, and though we don’t want to rush to judgement just yet, it’s certainly looking promising. Boasting new character Wattson, a Battle Pass that includes daily and weekly challenges, alterations to the map and more, it’s sounding a whole lot better than what came before.

Perhaps one of the most exciting new additions though is that of a Ranked mode. Yes, the much-requested feature will finally arrive in-game next month along with Season 2, which drops on July 2nd. Not much is known about it just yet, but EA says “players will be matched by skill as they compete to reach the top of six individual tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Apex Predator), earning exclusive cosmetics and rewards at the end of each season based on where they place.”

Seems exciting, but will it, along with the other things we mentioned, be enough to pull Apex Legends back from the brink and set it back on its path to dethroning Fortnite, which many thought it would do at one point? Time will tell, but stay tuned as E3 continues on as we’ll have a lot more for you as the event unfolds over the next few days.
