5) The Last Of Us – PlayStation 3

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series was certainly a departure from what the studio had been previously reputed for, but its emphasis on platforming and adventure still had ties to the Crash and Jak and Daxter series. The same could not have been said about The Last of Us, which represented a complete polar opposite in regards to its theme and premise.
Indeed, the gaming community were stunned to discover the studio was creating such a tonally dark and gritty survival horror game as their next project, causing many to fear it was a step too far away from what Naughty Dog had proven best at. They need not have worried, however, as The Last of Us went on to become one of the most critically acclaimed games of its generation and the second best-selling exclusive on PlayStation 3.
[zergpaid]The Last of Us applied the superlative cinematic presentation that Naughty Dog had near perfected with the Uncharted series and married it to an emotional heartfelt story of survival. Its narrative was one of unrivalled quality, and thanks to career high performances from its cast, it depicted an entirely relatable relationship between the game’s two main protagonists, Ellie and Joel. Quite apart from its brilliant story, The Last of Us played fantastically too with stealth mechanics, real time crafting and refined gunplay, adding a far greater variety to gameplay.
Debuting in 2011, The Last of Us was the PlayStation 3’s swan song. The perfect send-off and the console’s best game.
