Microsoft has announced that customers who purchase an Xbox One console this weekend will be entitled to a retail game of their choice free of charge. The offer, which begins on September 7th and extends right through until the 13th, will be available across “most major outlets” in the United States, including GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Amazon and Toys ‘R’ Us.

No doubt, this rather enticing offer aligns quite nicely with the imminent release of Activision’s hotly-anticipated Destiny — itself debuting on September 9th — though Microsoft confirmed that the deal can be applied to any retail game of your choosing, including bundles.

“The sky’s the limit: Whether you want to lock-and-load with your friends in Destiny or Titanfall, face the legions of hell in Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition, hack the planet in Watch Dogs, or hit the sports arena of your choice in Madden NFL 15 or NHL 15, the choice is yours.

“The offer is good for our Xbox One system bundles, too – so if you want to pick up the Xbox One Madden NFL 15 Bundle or Forza Motorsport 5 Bundle, you’re getting another free game of your choice priced at $59.99 or lower on top of it!”

So, if a MMO-lite space shooter doesn’t sound like you cup of tea, there are plenty of other titles to select from. It’s worth keeping in mind, though, that the small print of the deal stipulates that both the Xbox One system and the game itself must each be new and therefore cannot be refurbished or preowned.

Nevertheless, for those who have been contemplating picking up an Xbox One in time for Halo 5: Guardians (or, if the nostalgia is just too alluring, The Halo Master Chief Collection), be sure to take advantage of this limited deal before it expires next Saturday, September 13th.
