Update: Gears of War: Judgement will launch on March 19, 2013.

We knew that Gears of War: Judgement, the prequel that will bring class-based multiplayer to the series for the first time, would have us waiting until next year. Some speculated that February would be when Epic Games would unveil the latest cog of their franchise, and the good news is that they weren’t all that far off.

Rod Fergusson, Epic Games Director of Production, revealed to G4’s X-Play that the Baird and Cole centric game is due to be released in March of next year. This was later confirmed through the show’s Twitter account:

“You heard it here! Gears of War Judgment will be released in March… But @GearsViking (Fergusson) won’t let us say more yet.”

Gears of War: Judgement will follow Kilo squad in the immediate aftermath of Emergence Day. It will be interesting to see what the protagonists were like before they became battle-hardened and how the threat itself has evolved. We may know that Baird and Cole survive the fight to save Halvo Bay, but we don’t know what they had to overcome in order to do so – and I for one can’t wait to find out.
