New Resident Evil 2 Mod Replaces Mr. X With Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ Big Smoke

Capcom's loving remake of Resident Evil 2, despite being only a few months old, has become the modders' favourite since launch back in January. Leon, Claire and Ada have all been subject to their fair share of wardrobe changes, some of which strip them all the way down to their Y-fronts, as is the case with one fan's self-explanatory 'Sexy Leon' creation. Others, on the other hand, have taken the tinkering in a wholly different direction with genuinely terrifying animation alterations, but even those don't compare to the attention lavished on Resident Evil 2's indisputable star.

Capcom’s loving remake of Resident Evil 2, despite being only a few months old, has become the modders’ favourite since launch back in January. Leon, Claire and Ada have all been subject to their fair share of wardrobe changes, some of which strip them all the way down to their Y-fronts, as is the case with one fan’s self-explanatory ‘Sexy Leon’ creation. Yes, we’re referring to Mr. X. Who else? The Umbrella-created superhuman with a penchant for punching things has undergone an immeasurable number of makeovers since Resident Evil 2 landed, many of which replace his character model entirely. The Tyrant’s forced mutation into Thomas the Tank Engine is unlikely to be what Umbrella had in mind, I’m sure.

Capcom has since closed that chapter in Resident Evil‘s decorated history (hopefully in order to begin work on a Resident Evil 3 remake), of course, but that hasn’t stopped fans keeping the remake in the limelight with further modifications, as seen below:

As an homage to Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, modder BeastGaming has replaced both Leon and Mr. X’s models with those of C.J. and Big Smoke’s respectively, the result being one of the weirdest, yet hilarious fan creations to date. Extensive as it is, BeastGaming’s mod even goes the extra mile by adding audio cues for various interactions. One scene, in particular, has C.J. yell out in terror at being floored by his ‘friend,’ kindly requesting that he chill out.

Is this the wackiest mod yet to surface for Resident Evil 2? That’s a topic ripe for discussion, but it’s certainly up there with the best of them. Here’s hoping BeastGaming’s next project is to replace Mr. X with Grand Theft Auto V‘s Trevor.
