6 Characters We Want To See In Star Wars Battlefront DLC

With the release of Star Wars Battlefront only days away now, and with EA already teasing a slew of ongoing expansion packs for the anticipated title over the course of the next twelve months, we started to think about all the things we really want to see from the growing game. It certainly seems that there is going to be a Destiny-esque stream of updates during the first year and, given the huge success of the recent open beta, it would appear that EA are going to have an excellent foundation from which to build their answer to Bungie's epic. With the ongoing expansions for Star Wars Battlefront set to cover a range of additions from new locations to brand new game modes, we've been thinking about what we want to see in the future. Since there are a fairly small number of heroes and villains currently confirmed for the game's initial release, we started to consider who else we'd like to see in future expansions. Here, we bring you six characters we hope to see in the DLC. However, please note that since the game is currently not covering any of the events of the prequel trilogy, we've had to look deeper into the events of the original trilogy... and beyond! 6) Captain Phasma Yes folks, that's right: since it seems Battlefront won't be taking inspiration from any of the prequel trilogy - which is a damn shame given the quality of some of those characters - then the expansion of the game's universe will have to come from the upcoming expansion of the movies. So, what better place to start than with the most badass-looking Stormtrooper there's ever been? Phasma - played by Gwendoline Christie in The Force Awakens - will be one of the film's secondary antagonists as a captain of The First Order. Little is known about Phasma's personality or military history, but her commanding role suggests that she's absolutely not someone you want to mess with. After all, how many Stormtroopers in the original trilogy were seen surviving long enough to reach the rank of captain? Most of them were killed by teddy bears with sticks! In the early trailer footage, Phasma is shown strolling casually across ruined battlefields, appearing calm and considered in the midst of the chaos. The character's appearance is wonderful and would no doubt translate perfectly into the graphics of the game. Experience is key on the battlefield, and having a commanding presence joining the fight for the Imperials would certainly boost their morale and chances of success. 5) Chewbacca We already know that Han Solo is going to be a playable hero from day one when the game releases, but what about his loyal companion and co-pilot, Chewbacca? The two were mostly inseparable during the original trilogy of movies, and it's hard to imagine that Chewie would allow Han into another battle without demanding to fight alongside him. The Wookie's Bowcaster is a powerful tool that fires metal projectiles surrounded by energy that can shock and stun its targets. It's a great piece of equipment to take into battle, as is the trademark strength of the towering creatures themselves. Chewbacca could enter the fray with a powerful melee attack to bolster his arsenal, as well as an enhanced capability for taking damage as a result of his great strength. It's unclear at this time whether battles in the game will allow for multiple heroes to enter the fray for one team, but if this is a case, then Chewie and Han would make a formidable duo in any conflict. It would be great to see them benefit from improved attributes if a team manages to call on them both simultaneously. 4) Yoda Despite his appearances in the original trilogy mostly showing Yoda in ill-health due to his old age, he was still initially powerful and clever enough to deceive Luke Skywalker and to eventually train the young Jedi in the ways of the force. Yoda was also undoubtedly one of the greatest force-users ever to have lived, and could still make a useful - if temporary - return for the purposes of the game. Since Yoda's power was one of the greatest to have been recorded for a Jedi, his use in the game could be subject to a time restraint over the other heroes. It would make sense that, given his age, Yoda may only be able to recall his strength for a short time in order to attempt to turn the tide of battle. This in turn would mean that players would have to be far more tactical about when they decided to call on him. While many may say it is simply worth employing the master's strength from the prequel trilogy, this would hardly fit into the atmosphere and timing of Star Wars Battlefront, and so a measured, limited inclusion could be the way to strike a perfect balance. 3) Rey Much of the early exposure surrounding The Force Awakens has focussed heavily on Rey, and from what we've seen so far she certainly seems likely to fit into the mould of strong, engaging Star Wars protagonists. A scavenger left as a child on planet Jakku - which will feature in the upcoming game - Rey quickly had to learn to fend for herself in a dangerous world. In the trailer footage, Rey is shown to be brave, athletic and intelligent. She carries with her a staff-like object that can be wielded as a weapon, and shows no lack of familiarity with a blaster in hand. There is also plenty of speculation, as the film's release approaches, as to whether or not Rey will have an affinity to the force. Even without this, however, she will likely be a strong enough character to be a worthy hero for gamers to use in Battlefront. The use of the two-handed weapon will be reminiscent of the lightsaber wielded by the Jedi Bastila Shan in Knights Of The Old Republic, and if she does prove to be a force-sensitive character, then the parallel will grow even greater. Nevertheless, Rey's seemingly fearless enthusiasm and sprightly nature would make her an interesting hero in the battlefields of the game, while her knowledge of the planet Jakku may even be able open secret passages unseen to visiting soldiers. 2) Poe Dameron One of the most impressive elements demonstrated by the beta gameplay was the way in which Star Wars Battlefront is able to take its conflict to the skies while the fight continues to rage at ground level. In early experiences with the Hoth multiplayer, this transition was mostly seamless and gave the battlefield a bolstered sense of scale. Since players can take on the role of heroes and of fighter pilots, why not add the sought-after incentive of an individual who could be adept at both? Poe Dameron - who actually makes his first appearance in Star Wars canon in a bridging novel - is both of those things. Having been born to parents who both fought for the Rebel Alliance, Dameron grew up to follow in their footsteps before rising to the rank of commander of Black Squadron's X-Wing fighters. His inclusion in the game could be difficult to get right, but offering him up as a rarer character who arrives in his X-Wing would make acquiring him a very rewarding experience. If EA are able to enhance the power and manoeuvrability of his fighter to reflect his skill as a pilot, then it would add an exciting dimension to the airborne battles in the same way that the likes of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader do at ground level. 1) Kylo Ren Ultimately the most exciting character we've seen in the preamble to The Force Awakens has to be the mysterious fanatic: Kylo Ren. From his raw, dangerous power to the origin of just who he was before he pulled on the mask, Kylo Ren has proven to be somewhat of an enigma since his image was first revealed to eager audiences. And whether there proves to be a familiar personality beneath the mask or not, Ren is likely to be a formidable warrior and one that players will surely want to control in Star Wars Battlefront. He's said to have a fiery temper and an aggressive, violent fighting style, which would make him perfect for some of the game's more compact or congested locations. We would also hope that his inclusion in the game could lead the way for the addition of other members of the 'Knights of Ren,' about whom very little is known up to this point. They've been glimpsed in just a few stills from the trailers, but look to be a well-armed and deadly group of First Order affiliates. If nothing else, they would make excellent skins for gamers opting to side with the First Order. Anyways, there you have it: six characters that we're hoping may make there way into Star Wars Battlefront once the DLC starts to release in 2016.
