Team Ninja’s action RPG Nioh will launch worldwide on February 9 exclusively on PlayStation 4, publisher Koei Tecmo has announced today at TGS 2016. The title had previously been tentatively pegged for a 2016 release date, but it looks like Team Ninja needs just a little more time to make sure everything is running smoothly.

If the two beta demos held by the studio earlier this year are anything to go by however, we don’t think Team Ninja has too much to worry about. Both trials, while a little rough around the edges, have all the markings of an excellent action title, one which will undoubtedly appeal those that adore FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series.

Often affectionately referred to as ‘Samurai Souls’ by fans, Nioh lifts several mechanics and gameplay elements from the aforementioned series, featuring the same sort of semi-realistic combat and risk/reward systems as its inspiration while introducing enough of its own quirks to carve out its own unique identity.

Although no mention was made during the release date announcement of Nioh receiving any graphical or performance enhancements for the PS4 Pro, such options exist in both demos, so we’ll hopefully get confirmation of the feature over the weekend, where it’ll be present on the show floor of Tokyo Game Show.
