Despite having been informally announced via a trailer released by Ubisoft all the way back in 2008, the studio and series creator Michel Ancel have made barely any mention of Beyond Good & Evil 2 since, leaving fans of the original in the dark as to the status of the sequel all these years later.
As each subsequent E3 passes, we’ve all been left with a mildly sour taste in our mouths when no mention is made of the title during Ubisoft’s annual conference, but that could all be about to change. Taking to Instagram earlier this morning, Ancel posted a new image (below) depicting a man with an adorable little piglet atop his shoulders.
Accompanied by a caption that reads “Somewhere in System 4 … – Thanks #ubisoft for making this possible!,” the image has instantly sparked excitement due to what it’s heavily hinting towards.
The anthropomorphic pig in the image could well be a young Pey’j, one of the protagonists from the original game that acted as Jade’s adoptive uncle. Assuming that’s an accurate assumption, the man could well be Jade’s father, who was stated to have died prior to the events of the original Beyond Good & Evil.
Seemingly cementing the fact that the image is a teaser for Beyond Good & Evil 2, Ancel’s reference to a ‘System 4’ is a huge hint – it was the name for system in which the original was set.
We’ll have to wait for Ancel or Ubisoft to come forward with more information, but it appears, for now at least, that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is very much alive. Last we heard, the troubled sequel was potentially going to be a Nintendo NX exclusive.
