6 Must Own Pieces Of DLC For The PS4

Younger gamers won’t necessarily remember the days when we used to call DLC an “expansion pack,” especially those that didn’t venture into PC gaming. Of course, back in the day PCs were really the only hardware with which additional content was viable because of the nature with which they were installed and saved on hard drive. But consoles have since caught up, and thanks to the connectivity afforded by online networks such as Xbox Live and PSN, substantial additional content has become common place for most AAA titles.

Gamers should always be weary of so called “season pass” packages, but in the case of Fallout 4, Bethesda has done a great job delivering quality additions to the main campaign. Ok, so we’re still waiting for mods to debut on console, but Automatron and Wasteland Workshop added some super gameplay additions, and that looks set to continue into the future with several more workshop expansions due to release alongside the upcoming Nuka Cola. The real meat in the sandwich, however, is courtesy of the intriguing single player DLC Far Harbor.

Set on a mysterious island off the Boston coastline, Far Harbor’s eerie setting is complemented by a fascinating narrative and some stand out characters. The expansion introduces new factions for the player to ally with or fight against, and its main story arc is interesting enough to draw most gamers in. There are plenty of side quests to engage with and some interesting backstories to explore based on the weary inhabitants of Far Harbor that do feel unique in comparison to content within the main game.

Most performance issues that plagued the PS4 version of Far Harbor have been fixed, but those sensitive to Bethesda’s typically rough aesthetic should be aware that the DLC is among the worst examples of framerate drop in Fallout 4. That being said, the issues only occur in certain situations and it’s not nearly enough to detract from the positive offerings of this DLC.

It may not be good enough to warrant purchasing Fallout 4 for alone, but if you have the main game then you should definitely get on board and sail to the misty shores of Far Harbor.
