10 Video Games To Watch Out For This Month

Due to digital distribution, there are more video games releasing now than ever before. In fact, it can be difficult to keep up with all of the new releases even if you read about the industry on a daily basis. Thankfully, in order to help readers informed about what games are coming out and to highlight games that look like they're going to be special, we've put together a list of August's most promising video game releases that you should definitely be keeping an eye on. ABZÛ – August 2 When it was announced that Journey's Grammy Award nominated composer and art director would collaborate on a new game, it was safe to assume that we were in for a treat. The game, called ABZÛ, has players deep sea diving and exploring a world filled with wildlife. It's one of the most visually stunning titles ever released, and it's just as fun to play. Batman: The Telltale Series – August 2 Telltale Games has a great track record as of late with Tales from the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us both receiving high praise from critics and consumers. Now they're tackling their biggest franchise yet—Batman. The studio's signature brand of storytelling shines in the first episode of the Caped Crusader's latest adventure, and it sets up what looks to be an entertaining season of games. No Man's Sky – August 9 Few video games, let alone indie games, get the amount of hype that No Man's Sky has received, but that's a testament to how appealing its premise is. Hello Games have generated a whole universe for players to explore, and they play to let each player feel like Christopher Columbus as they discover new worlds. Personally, I can't wait to see if the Joe Danger developer has been able to fulfill its promising sales pitch, and to name a planet of my own in just a few short days. UNO – August 9 Few games are as fun to play with friends (or complete strangers) as UNO. Just when the wildly popular #UNOweNEEDit fan campaign was underway on Twitter, Ubisoft announced that they were bringing the beloved card game to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Only time will tell if it can live up to the stellar downloadable game that Carbonated Games put out in 2006, but I'm certainly excited to "draw four" later this month. Grow Up! – August 16 Ubisoft is known for their huge AAA-releases that feel largely lifeless and formulaic. That's why 2014's Grow Home was such a breath of fresh air from the French publisher. This quirky 3D platformer featured a clumsy robot named BUD as he climbed his way up mountains, rode giant plants into the sky, and explored an open world at his own pace. It was relaxing, fun and totally out of left field. Now BUD is back in Grow Up!, and we can't wait to see what new shenanigans he's gotten up to. Metroid Prime: Federation Force – August 19 Metroid Prime: Federation Force wasn't the Metroid game fans wanted or expected, but that doesn't mean it'll be bad. In fact, developer Next Level Games have created some of the best games for the Wii and 3DS, so I fully expect this one to be a lot of fun. The 3DS exclusive will feature four player co-operative play and will put fans in the shoes of a Galactic Federation Marine - sounds like a good time, right? Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – August 23 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a perfect way to re-introduce the world of Deus Ex to gamers, and now Eidos Montreal is back with a sequel. The action role-playing title will once again star Adam Jensen as he works with Interpol in order to take down a terrorist organization. Its cyberpunk world will test the player's moral compass and as such, it looks to be one of 2016's most interesting video games. Madden NFL 17 – August 23 Every year Madden is one of the top selling games, and one would be forgiven for thinking that Electronic Arts might grow complacent without any serious competition. Thankfully, EA Tiburon hasn't skipped a beat and have continued to add new features with every installment. Last year's outing retooled the passing game, while Madden NFL 17 will focus on the ground game and a brand new franchise mode. The King of Fighters XIV – August 23 While The King of Fighters isn't thought of as the king of fighting games anymore, its return is definitely a welcomed one. SNK Playmore's fourteenth installment in the series will feature a huge roster of 50 characters, with many returning from past games. After the disappointment of Street Fighter V, it's exciting to think about receiving such a full-featured fighting title, and this one certainly looks set to deliver. Verdun – August 30 Just a few short years ago, World War II shooters were all the rage in gaming. Now, first-person shooters are mostly set in the future, with jetpacks and mechs becoming the norm. That's why Verdun really stands out. This WWI FPS releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this month and has a unique focus on trench warfare. So, if you're feeling tired of what the genre has offered as of late, this throwback might be just the thing to fix it. While August is historically one of the slowest months in the year for gaming releases, you can see that there are still plenty of worthwhile new releases in the 2016 lineup. From inventive new indie games to new sequels in beloved franchises, there truly seems to be something for everyone.
