10 Actresses Who Could Play Batgirl In The DCEU

Warner Brothers' DC Extended Universe just keeps on growing. After only recently announcing that a movie starring Nightwing is on its way, we now know that another of Batman's sidekicks is to feature in their own film. This time, it's Batgirl AKA Barbara Gordon. While this is exciting enough news on its own, what's really got people talking is the fact that Joss Whedon is currently in talks to direct the movie. If this goes ahead, it'll be one heck of a coup for DC, seeing as Whedon previously led Marvel to massive success with his two Avengers movies.

Amandla Stenberg

Stenberg hasn’t had too many notable roles so far, but you’ll probably know her from her memorable supporting part in the first Hunger Games movie. She plays Rue who – spoiler warning! – tragically dies during the Games. In that role, she proved to be a talented young actress who could play it tough and also tug at your heartstrings, too. Stenberg is an alternative choice for the part but she has received quite a lot of support on social media, so DC would be wise to pay attention to the fans.

At 18, Stenberg is the youngest on this list and, assuming that DC want to start work on the movie soon, she would be too young to portray The New 52 version. If Whedon looks to the “Batgirl of Burnside” comics instead, though, Stenberg would be a shoe-in for the part. Just like Babs in that version, Stenberg recently went viral with her series of YouTube videos.

By the way, if you’re wondering how they could have a non-caucasian Batgirl when J.K. Simmons is portraying the character’s father, it really isn’t that big of a deal. They could easily alter her backstory to make her adopted.
