10 Important Moments From The Avengers: Infinity War Trailer

After what feels like eons of waiting, the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War is finally here - and it's just as epic and thrilling as we had hoped for! Packed full of Avengers, action, an ominous tone and lots of intriguing teases for what the movie holds, it doesn't drop too much all at once, as it saves quite a lot for future trailers and the actual film itself. For instance, the union of all of the heroes and a bigger role for the Guardians of the Galaxy. But what are the most important moments from this very first preview? From the arrival of Thanos in New York to the reveal of the Iron Spider suit to the grand showdown in Wakanda, the teaser helps us piece together some parts of the film's plot and how all of the characters will reunite. So, with that in mind, let's take a look at some of the finest bits from the trailer and analyze where everything could fit in as we go along. Some Assembly Required This isn't a great time for the world to get attacked by an alien warlord (uh, not that there ever is), as Earth's Mightiest Heroes aren't exactly a united front when Infinity War begins. The opening of the trailer, though, teases how the Avengers will gradually reassemble now that the planet needs them. Set to clips of the various heroes spread around Earth (and the galaxy), we get a moody retelling of Nick Fury's classic quote from The Avengers, as told by different heroes. "There was an idea," Fury begins. "To bring together a group of remarkable people," continues Tony. "To see if we could become something more," adds Vision. "So when they needed us, we fight the battles," chimes in Thor, before Black Widow wraps up with: "That they never could." It's an effective, doom-laden way of beginning the trailer. The inference here is that the hope and optimism seen in The Avengers has passed and now the heroes are wondering if they actually can fight the world's battles for them, after all. For a suggestion that things are darker this time around, the second shot of the trailer sees Tony grabbing what looks to be a dying person's hand against what appears to be an alien backdrop. Could this be one of his teammates? We do know that Infinity War is going to bring about lots of death... A Vision Of Vision? Captain America: Civil War already teased a coming romance for Scarlet Witch and Vision, as per the comics, as the duo bonded over their shared fear of their great powers that were derived from the Mind Stone. It looks like this is going to move forward in Infinity War, as Wanda and the android are seen getting pretty cosy in one scene. Intriguingly, Paul Bettany appears in this sequence as himself, sans red face-paint and elaborate outfit. So, how is Vision a real human now? It's likely that Scarlet Witch has used her powers to get inside his head and altered his perception so that he can see himself as a human being for a short period of time. Whatever the explanation, Wanda clearly likes what she sees, as the pair share a passionate moment. Might we also meet the couple's twins in this movie? Or in Avengers 4? A recent casting call suggests so, but unfortunately, this trailer hints that Vision himself doesn't have long left in the franchise (more on that later). Banner Is Back When we last saw him in Thor: Ragnarok, Bruce Banner revealed that he might not ever return again, as the Hulk's strength had grown enough to keep himself in control. Of course, we knew that Mark Ruffalo had to show his face in Infinity War, though, and sure enough this trailer confirms that Banner will be back in the team-up movie. The first time we see him in the preview, a shirtless Banner is laying in a hole in the floor with none other than Doctor Strange and Wong staring over him. It's clear what's happened here - as with The Avengers, Hulk has fallen out of the sky and transformed into Banner on the way down. It seems that this time he landed in Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. No doubt his arrival on Earth follows a battle with Thanos and his cronies aboard the Asgardian refugee ship (see the Ragnarok post-credits scene for context). Another clip shows that Banner will be reunited with Natasha. Unlike Scarlet Witch and Vision, though, the scene they share looks rather awkward and subdued. Is this a hint that "Brutasha," as the fans call them, is coming to an end? Scarlett Johansson has already said as much in interviews. Loki Has The Tesseract The trailer next lets rip with a foreboding voiceover from Thanos, but let's hold off on that for a moment to talk about a brief scene that occurs during this speech. At one point, we see a pair of feet walk through a swathe of corpses. It's then revealed that it's Tom Hiddleston's Loki, and he's presenting the Tesseract to an unseen visitor. This looks like another scene that follows on directly from the Thor: Ragnarok post-credits stinger. Notice Loki's spaceship-like surroundings here. Also, notice the old-fashioned clothes of the corpses around him. It's likely that he's standing in the ruins of the Asgardian refugee ship after Thanos has attacked it. If you cast your mind back to Ragnarok, you might also remember that the God of Mischief appeared to snatch the Tesseract from Odin's vaults. For all intents and purposes, it looks like he's sacrificed his own people to ally himself with the Mad Titan once again. Of course, appearances can be deceiving - especially when Loki's involved. But it looks like his apparent switch to the good side in Ragnarok was just another ploy and he's still as bad to the bone as ever. Thanos Is Here Now, let's spool back a little bit. Once again, it looks like poor old New York is going to be the centre of an apocalyptic alien invasion, as a gigantic extraterrestrial wheel arrives in the middle of the sky above the city. At least some of the Avengers are on hand, though - Strange, Wong, Banner and also Tony Stark. As they gather to observe the scene, we get an ominous speech from an unseen Josh Brolin: "In time, you will know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right but to fail all the same. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives." In other words, your classic villainous "I'm gonna win" spiel. And then the big moment comes and Thanos finally sets foot on Earth. After so much build-up, the big purple lug needed a grand entrance to make his mark, and causing a big scene in the middle of New York should do the trick. Also, kudos to the visual effects team for upping the game with Thanos since his earlier appearances. The Iron Spider Thanos' arrival also happens to fall on an average school day for your friendly, neighbourhood Peter Parker, who senses the imminent danger while sitting on the school bus - with the hairs on his arm standing up, as a nod to his classic Spidey-sense. The next time we see him, Peter is ready for battle - and he's donned the so-called "Iron Spider" suit first seen at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. At the time, Tony offered it to Peter as the outfit he could wear as an official member of the Avengers team. However, Peter turned it down. Now it looks like he's going to need the upgrade to face off against the awesome might of Thanos. Unfortunately, it doesn't look to be be enough though, as a later clip shows the Mad Titan slamming the webhead into the ground. This is the first time we've seen the Iron Spider suit in action and it looks terrific. A great touch is the glowing green-tinted eyes that recall Spidey's look from the comics over the past couple of years. "Get This Man A Shield" As well as trouble in New York, it seems that it's all going down in the secret African nation of Wakanda, too. "Evacuate the city," we hear Chadwick Boseman's King T'Challa order his men. "Engage the defenses." We then see T'Challa in battle with the invaders himself, decked out in his Black Panther garb. In a short scene, we glimpse a strange alien woman throw a glowing staff at the king, but he's quick enough to pluck it out of the air. At first glance, this woman sort of resembles Ragnarok's Hela. However, it's actually Proxima Midnight, one of Thanos' Black Order. We found out a while back that the Black Order would be introduced as Thanos' elite squad of his adoptive children (which Gamora and Nebula would have been part of if they hadn't gone rogue). T'Challa then gives another order that's sure to get fans excited: "And get this man a shield!" Cue Steve Rogers walking out of the dark, revealing his new, bearded look. It's an epic moment and we're sure every Marvel fan watching had the same expression as Wanda on their face at this point. Captain America is back! Two Down, Four To Go The bad stuff really hits the fan next, when Thanos unleashes his army on Wakanda. And it seems he's enjoying mowing the Avengers down. "Fun isn't something one considers when balancing the universe," the big guy chuckles. "But this... does put a smile on my face." But let's hold off talking about the big fight for a moment and focus on the scene which shows Thanos armed with his Infinity Gauntlet - which features two of the Infinity Stones! Immediately preceding this, we see Thanos attacking Vision, seemingly trying to remove the Mind Stone from his head. The impression is that he's succeeded. However, if you pay attention, the Stone Thanos adds to the gauntlet is blue, not the yellow Mind Stone. It's likely, then, that this is the Space Stone instead - the one that's housed inside the Tesseract, that Loki likely gave to him earlier in the trailer. Despite what the preview suggests, then, Vision is probably OK. So, what about the purple one that's already in the gauntlet? That's the Power Stone, otherwise known as the Orb, which was last seen in the Collector's collection on Knowhere. In fact, a leaked scene that dropped online earlier this week captured the moment where Thanos attacks the Collector and retrieves the Power Stone. Two down, four to go... Battle In Wakanda Right, let's examine that epic battle sequence. It looks like that, by this point in the film, most of the Avengers have assembled to take on the intergalactic threat. Let's tick off who we know's there... Tony Stark has got out Veronica again AKA the Hulkbuster armor. Black Widow looks to have bested one of the Black Order. Doctor Strange is whipping out some mystic symbols. Captain America and Black Panther are pummeling some alien nasties. Falcon and Winter Soldier are armed and ready and finally, in one big team up shot, we can see that Hulk and War Machine have also joined the fray, as the Avengers are supported by the Wakandan army. The big question, though, is: why is Thanos attacking Wakanda? Is the reality stone secretly under T'Challa's care? This is the pervading theory by fans, as Black Panther is the only MCU movie left to go before Infinity War arrives next May. "Who The Hell Are You Guys?" As this is only the very first trailer for the movie, it holds back on giving us one of the things we're most excited to see in Avengers: Infinity War: the long-awaited team-up of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the preview's final scene does whet our appetite in a big way. It begins on a close-up of a weary, war-torn Thor (still rocking his eyepatch from Ragnarok's finale). "Who the hell are you guys?" he asks... as the camera reveals that he's on board the Milano and talking to the frikkin' Guardians of the Galaxy (I don't really mean frikkin'). The Guardians don't get any lines, but their silent reaction is fun enough. The look on Star-Lord's face says it all, as does Mantis' shy, little wave: "How don't you know who we are? We saved the galaxy. Twice." Going by Thor's bedraggled appearance, he's likely just escaped the battle on board the Asgardian refugee ship. But with the Guardians' help, he's bound to head straight for Earth to help defeat Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theatres on May 4th, 2018, and after watching this first trailer, we couldn't be more excited!
