This week saw the long overdue release of the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse (which you can see above). The first footage from Bryan Singer-directed movie premiered at this year's San Diego Comic-Con back in July, and after leaking onto the web, fans were left wondering if Fox would follow it up with an official version like Warner Bros. did with Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, though, that didn't happen.

Despite the fact that his X-Men movies are widely praised by fans, one of the biggest criticisms levelled at Bryan Singer is the fact that he doesn’t adhere to the comic books. Well, based on what we see here, he’s definitely embracing those for the way the mutants in X-Men: Apocalypse are being portrayed.

Whether it’s the way Cyclops’ optic blasts tear from his eyes or Angel shooting blades from his metal wings, this looks like the most comic book-y of these movies to date, and the way Storm lands on the ground in a bolt of lightning is particularly cool. It may have taken a while, but the director finally turning to the source material for inspiration is nice to see.
