It’s official: the summer movie season of 2017 is the worst in over a decade. The box office haul in North America from the last few months has taken such a dip that you would have to go back to 2006 to find a similar figure. With people staying out in the sunshine this year and not disappearing into the dark of movie theaters, then, this naturally means that some films that were supposed to blow up the box office just became, er, box office bombs.

There were many success stories over the period of May to August, though. Naturally, comic book movies are still doing big business, with Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 all lassoing lots of dough. Critically-acclaimed movies by celebrated directors also did well – for example, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. Other films were hit by the decline in US box office, but were saved thanks to successful business internationally, like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

But many other movies were not so lucky. Typically, the biggest flops of the summer were either the latest installment of a surefire franchise that surprisingly dropped the ball, or films that were meant to start a new series but fell flat on their face.

With that in mind, read on for 10 movies that completely bombed over the past few months.
