10 Moments In Avengers: Endgame That Surprised Everyone

Avengers: Infinity War shook the world when it landed last year, with Thanos' apocalyptic snap that wiped out half the heroes becoming a true cultural touchstone. It was all on Avengers: Endgame, then, to deliver a movie that would manage to top its predecessor in terms of surprising the audience. While there arguably wasn't one huge moment as singularly shocking as the snap, Endgame was certainly full of surprises that kept us hooked for the whole three hours and made us forget about our bursting bladders.

The final battle between the forces of good and Thanos’ army is one huge hit of fan service as it’s filled with so many awesome moments that’ll cause any fan to jump for joy. The heroes all coming through the portals. The all-female team-up moment. Cap finally saying the phrase “Avengers assemble!” The list goes on.

The most shocking of these fan-pleasing bits though has to be when Steve Rogers finally proves himself worthy of holding Mjolnir. He got a squeak out of it back in Avengers: Age of Ultron but here, Cap has complete command of Thor’s weapon (er, that sounded dirtier than intended). He even uses it to summon lightning to zap Thanos. We’re not quite sure how that works as that’s Thor’s thing but who cares, it looks cool.

Fans had long theorized that Cap was worthy to wield Mjolnir, but it wasn’t necessarily something we were going into Endgame expecting to see. When you think about it though, it made sense for it to happen before the end of Cap’s hero’s journey.
