The 10 Best Comic Book Movie/TV Moments of 2015

2015 was an incredible year for superhero adaptations (so long as you pretend that Fantastic Four never happened), with the genre finding great success on both the big and small screens. With 2016 looking set to be even bigger thanks to the release of movies like Captain America: Civil War and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, not to mention TV shows like Luke Cage and Legends of Tomorrow, it's definitely a good time to be a comic book fan. However, before we dive into 2016, let's take a look back at the past 12 months and examine the best that the genre had to offer. Needless to say, there were a lot of exciting moments, making it pretty tough to single out just ten of the greatest. After all, while Marvel may have dominated movie theaters, DC established their dominance on TV this year, leaving supporters of both companies with something to love. Meanwhile, those who follow both were in absolute heaven. So, with all of that in mind, here you will find the ten best comic book movie and TV moments of 2015. From Arrow to Daredevil and Avengers: Age of Ultron to The Flash, these are the scenes which we'll all be talking about well into 2016 and beyond. The next few years are going to see more and more superhero adaptations take hold, and while that's something to be very excited about, 2015 has arguably played a massive role in further establishing the genre as perhaps the most dominant ever. So, without further ado, join us as we take a look back at the 10 greatest comic book movie/TV show moments of 2015. 10) Meet The Legends Of Tomorrow This year's crossover between Arrow and The Flash really upped the stakes, focusing on a much bigger story than a simple team-up between the two heroes. Setting up the events of upcoming spinoff Legends of Tomorrow, characters like Hawkgirl and Hawkman made their presence felt in epic style, while the villainous Vandal Savage also made it clear that he'll be a force to be reckoned with in that series. However, a highlight came in the heartbreaking moment Oliver Queen said "run Barry, run" as he was obliterated by Savage, a moment which was thankfully reversed when the Scarlet Speedster managed to run fast enough to go back in time and make things right. 9) The Wasp Comic book movie fans don't tend to agree about a lot, but if there's one thing everyone is on the same page about, it's the need for more female superheroes. While both Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel will make their respective presences felt over the next couple of years, Ant-Man ended with the promise that we'll soon see Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne finally get the chance to follow in her mother's footsteps and suit up as The Wasp. While we're going to have to wait until Ant-Man and The Wasp for that, it's good to know it's coming, and as Marvel's mid-credits scenes go, this was one of their most exciting to date. As Hope said, "It's about damn time." 8) Daredevil Corridor Fight Scene Hailed by many as 2015's best comic book adaptation, Daredevil may have made us wait for the costume, but by the time that iconic red suit finally showed up, it's fair to say that the incredible action sequences in the Netflix series meant that the majority of fans had forgotten about the wait. While it would be easy enough to list all of those aforementioned action scenes here, one of the first definitely stands out as the best. The brutal fight scene which took place in that corridor in the first episode did an amazing job of establishing the tone of the series, and the fact that it was shot in one take makes it even more special. Brutal, exciting, and extremely re-watchable, this is how superhero fight scenes should be. 7) Hulk Vs. Hulkbuster 2015 was a year full of epic battles between heroes and villains, but possibly the best one came when two friends collided as an out of control Hulk ended up destroying nearly half a city in a battle with Iron Man's Hulkbuster. Comic book fans had been waiting to see Tony Stark's most iconic suit of armour hit the big screen ever since that mid-credits scene in The Incredible Hulk way back in 2008, and what Avengers: Age of Ultron delivered did not disappoint. This was a fight which looked like it had been torn straight from the pages of the source material, and while it could have done with being slightly longer, it probably only feels that way because it was so damn good. 6) Reverse-Flash Defeated The Reverse-Flash isn't just one of the best small screen villains of all-time, but arguably one of the greatest we've seen in the superhero genre to date. Tom Cavanagh was superb throughout season one of The Flash as Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne, and as sad as it was to see him go, the final battle between these two was incredible. While I probably would have preferred Barry to take him down alone rather than enlisting the help of The Arrow and Firestorm, that made this entire sequence no less enjoyable. Also, the fact it was all done on a TV budget was mighty impressive. So far, season two's Zoom has been pretty good, but he's yet to come close to the Reverse-Flash. 5) "Fine, I'll Do It Myself..." If there's been one major problem with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's big bad Thanos so far, it's that he's not very proactive. In fact, his decision to utilize the likes of Loki and Ronan the Accuser as pawns has meant that he's let a number of Infinity Stones slip from his grasp, and it's that which makes Avengers: Age of Ultron's mid-credits scene so satisfying. Wielding the Infinity Gauntlet for the first time on the big screen, Thanos makes his intentions clear with a single line of dialogue, and now, anticipation to see him wage war on Earth's Mightiest Heroes (and the Guardians of the Galaxy) is at an all-time high as we approach the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. 4) The Purple Man As great as Jessica Jones sounded, it was always hard to imagine it topping Daredevil. As it turns out, however, it may have just done that, and while it was light on colourful costumes and secret identities, the compelling dynamic between the titular character and the likes of Luke Cage and David Tennant's Kilgrave made it every bit as exciting for fans. The show's best moment came when Kilgrave gave himself a power upgrade and, in a blink and you'll miss moment, went purple during his final confrontation with Jessica. That being said, it was really her actions which stood out here, as the Private Eye managed to fool the egotistical villain and finished him off in a deservedly brutal fashion. 3) Ant-Man Battles The Falcon A lot of people thought that Edgar Wright no longer directing Ant-Man meant that the movie was doomed, but replacement director Peyton Reed outdid himself and the fact that he's returning for Ant-Man and The Wasp is very good news indeed. While this movie had a lot of highlights (from a purely visual standpoint, the titular character's shrinking powers made this the most unique superhero movie of 2015), Scott Lang taking on The Falcon right outside the New Avengers Facility blows them all away. This unexpected fight scene - providing you avoided the TV spots - was a tremendous amount of fun and a truly perfect example of what makes the MCU so great. 2) The Man Without Fear Suits Up I mentioned Daredevil's red suit a little earlier in this feature, and just because the action scenes made it easier to swallow the fact that it had a very small presence in season one, that makes the moment it finally showed up no less awesome. Matt Murdock deciding to don the outfit in order to take on The Kingpin in one final battle felt right, and while the comic book-y way director Steven S. DeKnight approached this sequence felt a little out of place compared to what had come before, there's no denying the fact that it was incredibly exciting and and a real fan pleasing moment to see it in action. Now, all season two needs to do is add that damn logo of his.... 1) "Well, I Was Only Born Yesterday." You may have been expecting a huge action packed moment to take the #1 spot, but this scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron stands out as being better than all of those combined. As tempting as it was to put The Vision lifting Mjolnir here (that was without a doubt one of the most surprising reveals in this year's superhero movies), this quiet final moment at the end of the sequel between The Vision and his "father" Ultron topped that, and ended with a stellar piece of Joss Whedon dialogue as the newest member of The Avengers wiped away the villainous android in an ambiguous enough way to ensure that Marvel can always bring Ultron back if they so choose.
