Christmas movies always get a hard time from the Grinch-esque critics over the holiday season. Perhaps it’s because these films prey on our fragile heartstrings and pander more to emotion than reason. Thinking about it now, every plot is a story about redemption in some way or the other, so there’s a valid point. 1997’s Jingle All the Way, however, is one festive comedy that never gets old – not even 20 years later.

Apart from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s solid performance as Arnold Schwarzenegger, this film also contained the talents of the late comedic great Phil Hartman and a pre-Star Wars Jake Lloyd. Bursting with zany characters and strong family values, this remains a popular Xmas flick for the whole family to watch together. Also, who wouldn’t want a Turbo Man action figure after seeing how cool it looked on screen?

Sadly, we’re living in the era of Madea, whose soul-destroying films get higher scores than Jingle All the Way. Go home, critics; you’re drunk.
