4) The Sword In The Stone
The story of King Arthur is always being adapted to the screen, so it’s a no-brainer that Disney are currently working on a remake of their 1963 take The Sword in the Stone. This is perhaps the one confirmed reboot that we’re most looking forward to, as it could do something we haven’t quite seen before.
The original film was a very loose adaptation of T.H. White’s The Once and Future King. Despite the book being a children’s classic, it hasn’t been adapted to film before or since. A closer rendition of the book in live-action would be interesting to see, then.
3) The Haunted Mansion
A big argument against these remakes is that the originals are good enough on their own. What Disney could be doing instead, then, is redo some of their back catalogue that didn’t turn out as well as they could have. A good example of this is The Haunted Mansion.
The studio was obviously hoping that their 2005 movie based on the theme park ride would be another Pirates of the Caribbean-sized hit. Unfortunately, the Eddie Murphy vehicle ended up being a pretty forgettable family comedy, when it could have been a really enjoyable horror movie for kids.
Guillermo del Toro was at one point in talks with Disney to direct a remake, as he was so disappointed with the first one, but so far, nothing has materialized. Let’s hope the Mouse House decide to reopen this project in the near future.
