8 Disturbing Details You Never Realized About Disney Movies

Disney movies have a reputation for taking questionable fairy tales, novels or real-life events and "Disneyfying" them - i.e. cutting out all the darkness to make them palatable for kids. While that's mostly true, you'd be surprised how many alarmingly disturbing things there are hidden in the movies of the House of Mouse. Often, the filmmakers will hide something within their family films that, if you pick up on it, will give the whole thing a much grimmer edge.

The Lion King’s Simba And Nala Are Siblings

Recommended Videos

Despite its supreme ick factor, suggested incest turns up in a lot of your favourite childhood movies. Star Wars, Back to the Future… Well, not only can you now add Finding Nemo to the list, but The Lion King as well. With this one, though, you don’t even need to know about obscure marine biology to work it out. The truth is staring us in the face. Simba and Nala are half-siblings.

As per real-life leonine habits, The Lion King depicts one male lion leading a pride of female lionesses (Simba’s father Mufasa). Sure, there’s also Scar but, as follows the rare times that this also happens in the wild, the secondary male is ostracized from society. The only conclusion to be drawn, then, is that Mufasa is the father of all the young lion cubs we see in the movie. Including Simba’s future wife, Nala.

It gets even worse when you consider the deleted scene in which Scar tries to seduce Nala, who we’ve now established is his niece. Plus, let’s not forget the plot of The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, in which Simba’s daughter Kiara falls for Scar’s chosen heir Kovu – who’s pretty obviously Simba’s nephew and Kiara’s cousin.

Can you feel the horror tonight?
