When it came to casting Lex Luthor in Batman V Superman, the most popular choice among fans was Bryan Cranston (presumably because he’s an incredible actor, and not just because he’d played a bald bad guy in Breaking Bad).

The decision by Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. to choose Jesse Eisenberg has been met with a fair bit of controversy though, with many worried that his performance will be little more than a slightly different version of The Social Network‘s Mark Zuckerberg.

While there are no doubt some similarities, Eisenberg’s Lex is a surprising highlight of this trailer. Completely insane and clearly very intelligent (not to mention thoroughly evil), his very different take on this classic villain is going to be something worth seeing.

If nothing else, it should prove all the haters wrong – those same haters who originally doubted Ben Affleck as Batman.
