9 Characters Who Must Appear In An All-Female Marvel Movie

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been seriously impressive in bringing a whole host of comic book superheroes to the screen over the past decade - the only problem is the overwhelming majority of those have been men. While Natasha Romanoff was a founding member of the Avengers, there won't be a woman-led solo film until 2019's Captain Marvel. Recently, though, we heard something that gave us some hope that the MCU would be bolstering the role of its female heroes in the future. That's because studio president Kevin Feige recalled the time on set when a band of Avengers actresses, led by Thor: Ragnarok's Tessa Thompson, pitched him an all-female team-up movie. It's far from being confirmation that anything like this is in the works, of course, but it's such a great idea that it's fun to contemplate. It's not like there aren't any comics to draw on, either. In fact, Thompson suggested using 1970s team the Lady Liberators as a basis, but a smarter move would actually be adapting the more modern A-Force team. So, what heroines could feature in such a movie? Disregarding the obvious answers - e.g. Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Wasp, Scarlet Witch and Valkyrie - we feel that these 9 other warrior women could easily be introduced into the MCU in a possible A-Force film. Lady Thor First of all, let's think about when an A-Force movie might arrive. At the very least, it would be in the 2020s. Which means that it would take place after the universe-wide shake-up that is Avengers 4, which could write out many of the MCU's major heroes. If, for instance, Chris Hemsworth vacates the role of the God of Thunder at the end of Phase Three, an A-Force film could reintroduce the character as a woman. As fans will know, recent comics have seen Thor lose his powers. When his former lover Jane Foster got hold of Mjolnir, she received all his Asgardian abilities and took up his heroic mantle. It was a bit of a controversial move in the comics, but it generated a lot of praise, too. The MCU needs more lady heroes, so why not reinvent one of the Avengers' biggest guns as a woman? While we're at it, why not have a Lady Loki as well? After all, Thor's brother also became a woman when he possessed the body of Lady Sif. She even joined A-Force in the comics. Tigra As time has passed, the MCU has embraced the weirder elements of the comic book universe more and more. For instance, it wasn't until last year's Doctor Strange that the mystical side of Marvel was introduced. With this now in play, the movies of Phase Four should be free to include characters connected with magic and sorcery. For instance, Tigra could turn up in an all-female film. In the comics. Greer Grant Nelson was initially a non-powered heroine known as The Cat, but she was later magically transformed into an actual cat person. Now with tiger-like fur, she took to wearing just a bikini, which has pretty much become the only thing most people know about her. That's a shame, though, as Tigra goes back decades and has ties to countless super-teams, including various off-shoots of the Avengers. Most notably, she was part of the second incarnation of the Lady Liberators, formed by She-Hulk to take down Red Hulk. Another member of that team is the Amazonian-esque Thundra, who the MCU could also introduce as their very own version of Wonder Woman. Spider-Woman Bringing Spider-Woman to the big screen seems like such a no-brainer, it makes no sense why it hasn't happened yet. Jessica Drew is her own kickass superhero, but the fact that she shares the Spider brand with Peter Parker would surely give her an instant popularity boost. Come on, Marvel, get on it! Drew has been around since 1977 but the character really took off when she was added to the roster of the New Avengers in 2005. From there, she became a top agent of S.W.O.R.D., the space-oriented counterpart to S.H.I.E.L.D. Naturally, she was also a member of A-Force and so is practically begging for a spot in an all-female Marvel movie. The only issue is that Spider-Woman might be one of those characters whose rights are too complicated to unpick, meaning no one can use her. For instance, Sony might have a claim to her due to her connection to Spider-Man. However, Marvel and them managed to make it work with that much more lucrative character, so surely they could come to some sort of an agreement over Jessica, right? After all, it's not like Sony seems to be using her in their spinoff universe. Kate Bishop With Avengers 4 likely to wipe out a few key figures, the MCU is going to have to start introducing legacy heroes sooner rather than later. And with rumours pointing towards Hawkeye meeting his end in the upcoming team-up movie, someone who needs to appear sometime in Phase Four is Kate Bishop, Clint Barton's successor as the Archer Avenger. In the comics, a lot of Kate's stories see her as a sidekick or crime-fighting partner to Clint, but the MCU version might have to go it alone if those rumours about him are true. But hey, that's OK. Just team her up with a band of Marvel's mightiest female heroes. Kate Bishop has been an A-Force member since almost the very beginning of the team. She's also a member of the Young Avengers, another team that would a perfect to helm their own movie. See, we're already starting to build up connections between different Phase Four films. Kevin Feige, feel free to hire us to do your job for you anytime. Ms. Marvel A lot is said about how superhero movies need to have a much more diverse array of leads than they do now, and Marvel is finally starting to move away from an endless procession of white male heroes, with Captain Marvel and Black Panther coming up in the next couple of years. It would be great if Phase Four could push things even further in that direction though, and one of the best characters to do that with is Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel. As the first ever Muslim Marvel hero, Kamala received a lot of praise when she first appeared just a handful of years ago in 2013. The trick to her success was that, hey, she was actually a great character in her own right, regardless of her ethnic or religious background. She's been called by some a modern-day Spider-Man: an ordinary New York teen who has great responsibility thrust upon her. If an A-Force movie ever happened, Ms. Marvel could be a great candidate for the audience's point-of-view character - a young heroine who discovers her powers and joins the all-female team. In the comics, Kamala idolizes Carol Danvers, hence taking on her old mantle of Ms. Marvel. Now that Brie Larson is bringing Carol to life very soon, it makes sense for Kamala to follow shortly after, right? The Women Of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Yes, we know. We've been told multiple times that a crossover between the movie and TV divisions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is off the cards. But a major reason why is because it's just too difficult to match up the schedules of the two different productions, meaning actors aren't free to hop between them. In a few years, by the time our proposed all-female movie gets off the ground, though, things might be a bit easier. Let's just come out and say it: it's not looking likely that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has too many seasons left in its pocket. Things looked bad when ABC waited a long time before announcing season 5, so we highly doubt it will last into the period of Phase Four. By that time, then, we'll want to check in on those characters to see where they've got to. An A-Force film could go someway to doing that. The likes of Melinda May, Daisy Johnson, Jemma Simmons and Bobbi Morse have made big impressions on fans of the show and they deserve to hop over to the big screen and stand shoulder to shoulder with their cinematic sisters. Morse AKA Mockingbird is even a prominent A-Force member in the comics. Agent Carter As the co-founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., Peggy Carter is one of the mothers of the MCU, so any all-female movie would have to feature her. Plus, as the very first Marvel lady to lead her own TV series, she deserves a key role in bringing the MCU's leading ladies together. The problem is that Peggy Carter's adventures are from a completely different time period from the rest of MCU. They couldn't even CGI an elderly woman's face onto Hayley Atwell like in Captain America: The Winter Soldier again as she died back in Captain America: Civil War. I guess we could settle for her niece, Sharon Carter AKA Agent 13, but she's no replacement for Peggy herself. Sharon's cool in the comics, but she hasn't made much of an impression on screen as yet. So, how about a flashback sequence, a la Atwell's role in Ant-Man? Maybe it could be revealed that, along with setting up S.H.I.E.L.D., Peggy founded a covert team of highly-capable women? It would be fun to have the mostly boys club that is the Avengers having been beaten to the punch by their female counterparts. Jessica Jones Any team-up of Marvel's heroines has to feature the first MCU super-woman to get her own vehicle (Peggy Carter is awesome, but she isn't super). Beating Captain Marvel to the punch by four years, Netflix's acclaimed Jessica Jones lifted the character up from a relatively obscure comic book hero into one of the most celebrated women in the Marvel universe. If she didn't show up, the team would be missing a key element. As The Defenders has shown, every superhero squad needs a jaded cynic like Jessica to provide a necessary juxtaposition with the more straight-laced heroism from the rest of the group. Ms. Jones would surely have a field day teaming up with so many people in colourful outfits. Though she's from the TV sides of things, Jessica is as much a heavyweight as the movie heroines, so she could easily hold her own. She's super strong, super-durable and she even has the capacity to fly. That's only used as, in Jessica's words, "guided falling" on TV, but a big screen budget could allow her to actually take to the skies. She-Hulk Bruce Banner's cousin, Jennifer Walters AKA She-Hulk has to be one of the biggest Marvel heroes yet to appear in live-action in any form. Save a promo image for an 1990s movie that never happened starring Brigitte Nielsen. It's bizarre, too, considering the cultural impact the Hulk has made, and something really needs to be done about that soon. An all-female Marvel movie would be the best place to introduce She-Hulk into the MCU, then. For one thing, Jennifer is the leader of A-Force in the comics, so she would be a natural to take charge of the team on the big screen as well. She's one of the strongest women - in terms of muscle and characterization - and could easily command the respect of the likes of Black Widow. Also, featuring She-Hulk in a film that isn't solely about her could be the only way she could make it onto screens. It's known that Marvel can't produce a Hulk solo movie due to ongoing contractual issues, but he can take part in team-up films (e.g. Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok). It's likely that something similar exists with his female counterpart, then, but an A-Force movie could easily scout around the issue.
