10 Awesome Moments From The New Justice League Trailer

Ever since the special presentation shown at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, fans have been eagerly awaiting their next glimpse at Zack Snyder's Justice League, arguably the biggest DC movie we've ever had. At last, after months of agonizing waiting and days of several short teaser trailers, the second promo for the movie has now been released and for the most part, it definitely delivered. For one, the film is visually gorgeous, that much is clear from the footage we're presented with here. Aside from that, though, there also looks to be some awesome action and a few moments of levity. Of course, DC have always had strong trailers for their releases, so the real test will be when Justice League lands on our screens in November and we can finally decide if it's the success story that the DC Extended Universe so desperately needs. Sticking on the positive side, however, we've trawled through the trailer several times now to pick out the best bits of it. There were certainly quite a few, but these 10 are the ones that stuck out to us the most. 10) Bruce Wayne, Arctic Explorer The second Justice League trailer opens on the evocative image of an obscured figure riding through a snowy wilderness on horseback until he finds a small fishing port. Who is this artic explorer? Why, it's billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. Opening the trailer this way makes for a nice counterpart to the footage already seen in the Comic-Con preview. That one opened with Bruce wandering into the coastal pub and coming face to face with Aquaman. This shot clearly takes place shortly before it. It doesn't tell us a lot of new information, then, but it does show how far Bruce is travelling to hunt down his new allies. It's also a strong visual intro to the trailer. Say what you like about Zack Snyder, but he can definitely create some beautiful shots and imagery. 9) "It's Already Here" As Bruce traverses the icy wasteland, he gives an ominous voice over: "We have to be ready. You, me, the others. There's an attack coming... from far away." It's then revealed that he's speaking to Diana Prince as she replies, even more ominously: "Not coming, Bruce. It's already here." As she says this, things briefly jump into horror movie territory as Dr. Silas Stone is seen inspecting a Mother Box, with a Parademon appearing behind him. It's an effective sequence, and hints that the Parademons will be played for scares in the movie rather than just fodder for the League to beat up. The trailer doesn't spell out any plot details, but if you've been following the franchise so far, you'll know that Silas is the father of Victor Stone AKA Cyborg. We previously saw him save his son with the power of the Mother Box in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. 8) Introducing (The) Aquaman Following on from the trailer's opening scene, we switch back to the coast as Bruce Wayne introduces his first recruit, "Arthur Curry, the Aquaman." We see the King of Atlantis deal with some (presumably ne'er-do-well) sailor and swipe some booze while he's at it. "It's on him," he says as he storms out. Yeah, this is definitely not your dad's Aquaman. Continuing the connection between The White Stripes and Justice League, the scene is laid over with the opening few bars of "The Hardest Button to Button," after the Comic-Con trailer was set to "Icky Thump." The band's music definitely fits Jason Mamoa's rockstar superhero the best. Bruce labelling him "the Aquaman" starts a trend in this trailer, as each of the superhero names mentioned get a pronoun attached to the front, perhaps to make them seem less comic book-y. Barry Allen later asks Bruce if he's "the Batman" and Diana describes Victor as "a cyborg." 7) Meet Cyborg Next up is quite a moment, as we get our first real look at Cyborg in action. Unfortunately, it still doesn't show the full extent of the character, but he looks pretty impressive nonetheless. As Wonder Woman tells us, Victor Stone possesses "organic and bio-mechatronic body parts." We then get a couple of shots which tell us that Victor has been busy since he got his upgrades after his accident. He saves some people from falling debris by blasting it away and then stops a flaming car from hitting a cop. In short, he's a bona fide superhero. We haven't seen much of Ray Fisher's acting in the role yet, but he appears to be a fine addition to the League. By the looks of his sombre demeanour in the trailer, he's much more in line with the more mature version of Cyborg from the New 52 than the classic Teen Titans version. 6) Enter The Flash For the Flash's intro in the trailer, we return to the instantly classic moment from the Comic-Con footage where Bruce confronts Barry at his apartment and throws a batarang at him. To spice things up, we get to see moments and lines that were absent from the first trailer. For instance, Barry protesting that Bruce has got the wrong man and then asking him "you're the Batman?" Cue some shots of the Caped Crusader being awesome. Intercut with this scene is a great shot of the Flash suited and booted and speeding through the night. Though some might be miffed that the DCEU version sports blue lightning instead of the character's traditional yellow - not to mention his more armoured appearance - this moment is still a visually spectacular one that feels ripped from the comic book page. 5) The Age Of Heroes With the introductions out the way, we finally get what we came for - an awesome shot of the team together (well, minus Bats and Supes), complete with some great narration from Bruce and Diana. "They said the age of heroes would never come again," says Ms. Prince. "It has to," replies Bruce. The awesome soundtrack to these trailers continues, as well, as we switch to a hard rock cover of "Come Together" by The Beatles. We have Cyborg looking cool. Wonder Woman looking badass. Aquaman looking dangerous and, our personal favourite, the Flash grinning at Diana and Arthur, as if amazed that he's found himself on this superhero team. He did need friends, remember? 4) "What Are Your Superpowers Again?" We all know how awesome Batman is, but he definitely stands out when in a crowd of speedsters, cyborgs and mythical kings and princesses. So, there was always going to be a moment when they questioned if he was fit to lead the team. In the comedic highlight of the trailer, we see that Batman's got the perfect comeback. When Barry joins Bruce in the Batmobile, he asks him "so, what are your superpowers again?" Bruce responds with the deadpan: "I'm rich." Yep, good enough for us. This moment follows on from the great comedic chemistry between Barry and Bruce from the previous trailer. Batman and the Flash are such different characters in these incarnations that it looks like Ezra Miller and Ben Affleck might be the standout pairing of the movie. 3) The League In Action To make up for the set-up heavy first half of the trailer, its second half is mostly comprised of lots of balls-to-the-wall action, which promises some terrific sequences to come in the movie. You have Wonder Woman taking down a group of what looks to be human henchmen in a building somewhere, Cyborg pulling an Iron Man by shooting up into the sky as a face mask forms around his head and Barry completely besting what could be an Apokaliptian soldier in a fight thanks to his superspeed. And let's not forget Batman coming to the rescue in his Batmobile to mow down some Parademons. Yes, apparently Batman will still be controversially using guns again in Justice League. Though at least this time he's firing at totally evil alien creatures, so it's not too bad. The best bit, though, has to be Aquaman skewering multiple Parademons with one throw of his trident. Who says Arthur Curry isn't cool? Speaking of Aquaman, if you look closely you can see that the following scene to this appears to show a united force of Amazonians and Atlanteans taking on some Parademons. Does this mean that Diana and Arthur will call on their people to help them in battle during the movie? Or is this taken from a flashback which shows that the Parademons have been attacking Earth for centuries? 2) All The Cameos Apart from the six central heroes - he might not show up in this trailer, but remember that Superman will be resurrected at some point in the movie - Justice League will be stuffed to the nines with a huge supporting cast. A few of these faces turn up for some exciting cameos in this second trailer - giving us our first look at three new characters in the process. Firstly, we get a brief glimpse of Amy Adams returning as Lois Lane. Presumably, Lois won't get as major a role in this movie as she did in Man of Steel and BvS, but it still seems like she'll be important to the plot. After all, back in BvS, the Flash from the future did say that "Lois is the key." Whatever that means. Next up, we have Amber Heard as Mera, Aquaman's wife and queen of Atlantis. Again, it's unknown how big a role Mera will play in Justice League - though we'll shortly see her again in 2018's Aquaman - but given that she's a formidable fighter in her own right, we would expect her to land a hand at some point. From Mera, we jump to a member of the Flash's supporting cast - namely, his father Henry Allen. As played by Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan himself, Billy Crudup, we see that Barry's beloved pa is locked up in prison. Fans of The Flash TV show will find this moment very familiar, as Barry and Henry touching hands through the glass is highly reminiscent of a similar scene from the series' first season. That's still not all, though... 1) Batman's Playing Well With Others Again Last but certainly not least, we have former J. Jonah Jameson, J.K. Simmons, as Commissioner Gordon. We first see him standing next to Batman and looking across Gotham at night, in a scene that would be 100% classic Batman... if it wasn't for the presence of Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Speaking of which, this final scene reveals that Aquaman and Batman might actually be the dynamic duo to watch in Justice League. After Arthur comments that he "digs" Batman's flying rodent attire, the trailer cuts to Aquaman riding on top of the Batmobile and crying "Yeaaahh!" Who'd have thought those two would be best buds? Gordon also makes an interesting statement during this segment. As he sees Batman accompanied by Wonder Woman and Aquaman, he says: "It's good to see you playing well with others again." This is presumably another reference to the fact that Batman's sidekick Robin died at the hands of the Joker at some point before the events of BvS. In the midst of the action and comedy of this scene, it's a fitting reminder that there's still a lot of darkness to the DCEU. What we're hoping, though, is that Justice League balances the light and the dark better than the three previous films in the franchise.
