The 10 Best Moments From Deadpool

Deadpool's journey to the big screen has been fascinating to watch, and while the leaked screenplay didn't get it the green light, the overwhelmingly positive response to the leaked footage which followed most certainly did. However, it was always hard to believe that the movie was really happening, and Fox's track record made it even harder to be sure that it would actually be any good. Now though, thanks to extremely positive reviews and a massive box office haul, we have a whole new superhero franchise to root for, albeit one which is unlike any other. What went into making Deadpool so great, though? Why are fans across the world falling in love with the Merc with a Mouth? Well, for one, it's a movie crammed full of awesome moments and Easter Eggs, and here you will find a collection of the funniest, most inventive, and standout fan-pleasing moments from the film, all of which have gone a long way in making this Marvel movie such a massive hit. It goes without saying that there are obviously MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Deadpool, but if you've already seen it, then feel free to read on. 10) Negasonic Teenage Warhead Negasonic Teenage Warhead isn't a character who had much of an impact in the source material, and other than a similar dress sense, this big screen version doesn't really have a lot in common with her comic book counterpart. That's far from a bad thing though, as the banter shared between her and Deadpool proves to be an immediate highlight. However, it's the way the young New Mutants member shows off her powers which really impresses. Not to mention that the movie finds a really unique way to portray them from a visual standpoint. With any luck, the talented Brianna Hildebrand will be back for the Deadpool sequel, or perhaps she'll show up again in Josh Boone's New Mutants? 9) A Bumpy Car Ride Deadpool got the green light thanks to that leaked test footage showing off an exciting and action packed fight between the Merc with a Mouth and a group of heavily armed goons in the back of an SUV. The movie brings that sequence to life in live-action, and it's somehow even more impressive than what found its way online a couple of years back. A sequence which deserves to be re-watched again and again so you can spot all the smaller details you may have missed the first time around, this is easily one of the best action scenes to ever feature in a superhero movie - even if it was considerably smaller in scale than what we're used to in the likes of The Avengers. 8) The Opening Credits Sequence It's rare that superhero movies deliver a truly unique opening credits sequence, but that was definitely the case with Deadpool. Set to Julie Newton's "Angel of the Morning," it hilariously mentioned all the actors not by name, but by the stereotypes they were playing (Ed Skrein, for example, was "British Villain"). It also made good use of director Tim Miller's VFX background by taking us throughout the vehicle mentioned above in slow motion, throwing in some awesome Easter Eggs in the process. Those included Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld's name on a coffee cup, and more bizarrely, a picture of Ryan Reynolds suited up as Green Lantern in one of the goon's wallets. 7) Sex Montage There aren't many movies which could realistically get away with a montage of sex scenes, but Deadpool nails it (pun most definitely intended). The relationship between Wade and Vanessa is surprisingly touching, but what better way is there to show that than having the buff Ryan Reynolds and smoking hot Morena Baccarin going at it throughout pretty much every major holiday? Once again making good use of music - the montage is set to Neil Sedaka's "Calendar Girl" - there are also some very funny moments squeezed into these scenes, including Wade's unusual choice of hiding place for the ring he uses to ask Vanessa to marry him. 6) Colossus' Speech When Deadpool finally looks set to take revenge on Ajax for everything he's done to him, Colossus interrupts and delivers one of those touching and inspirational speeches which in most comic book movies would result in the lead having a change of heart and sparing the villain. Deadpool isn't like other comic book movies though, and mid-speech, he just shoots Ajax in the head. It's an awesome moment, but even funnier is what follows, as poor old Colossus ends up throwing up everywhere. Being a member of the X-Men, he's clearly not used to the sight of blood. 5) After The Credits I wasn't sure what to expect from Deadpool's after-credits scene, but the movie ended up handling this particular superhero film trope in a fourth wall breaking hilarious way. Featuring the Merc with a Mouth berating the audience for still being in the theater instead of just going home, the character goes on to ask if everyone was expecting an eye patch wearing Samuel L. Jackson to show his face. While some fanboys will be needlessly offended by Deadpool's decision to poke fun at Marvel Studios, handling the after-credits scene like this was a genius decision and perfectly suits the tone of this particular movie. 4) About That Hugh Jackman "Cameo" While there's no denying how disappointing it is that Deadpool doesn't feature an actual cameo from Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the movie still makes sure to reference the character in some very funny ways. Firstly, the Merc with a Mouth implies that he provided the hero with, ahem, oral relief in exchange for his own movie. Later, he unmasks in front of Vanessa and has Jackman's face stapled to his own, a moment which actually survived from the original draft of the screenplay. Another highlight comes when Deadpool pokes fun at the fact that the only X-Men he ever sees are Colossus and Negasonic, mentioning that the reason for that is probably because of his film's low budget. 3) 127 Hours Deadpool is a pretty violent movie, with lots of blood and dismembered limbs showing up throughout. However, it's to Miller's credit that he never goes over the top with it, ensuring in the process that the film doesn't end up feeling as cartoonish as Punisher: Warzone, for example. Despite that, by far one of the hardest scenes to watch comes when Wade breaks his hands and feet trying to beat up Colossus and ends up handcuffed to him as a result. In order to escape, Deadpool slices off his own hand with a knife, and the shot of him breaking the bone by jumping off the freeway as the blood splatters all over the X-Man's face doesn't exactly make for easy viewing. 2) The Cab Ride It's rare that we get to see how superheroes get around from place to place, unless they have an expensive car or can fly. Deadpool makes pretty good use of taxis though, and all of the scenes in which he takes a cab had us in stitches. His driver is Dopinder, and this mismatched pair share some very funny interactions. It's the second which is without a doubt the highlight, though; with stoic X-Men member Colossus crammed into the back, Wade pretends to lecture Dopinder for kidnapping his brother/love rival, but between each sentence he hilariously whispers things like "Kill him!" and "Kidnap her!" The cab driver may not hail from the source material, but his interactions with Wade are still one of our favorite parts of the film. 1) Cable's Coming Don't go anywhere once the first after-credits scene ends, because another immediately follows, this time featuring Deadpool spilling the beans on what's to come in the sequel. Much to the delight of comic book fans everywhere, the character reveals that Cable, the time travelling mutant with a bionic arm, will be in the next instalment of the franchise, suggesting that he could be played by Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, or...Keira Knightley? (there are, of course, a number of better alternatives). Regardless, the scene is a great way to tease fans about what's to come, and thankfully, is going to lead somewhere now we know that Deadpool is officially a hit. However, the involvement of a character like Cable means that the sequel will no doubt take things in a very different direction, and it's going to be interesting to see exactly how the creative team goes about handling that. After all, the budget will no doubt be significantly increased next time around, but so long as they keep the same unique tone, there's really no need to fret about Deadpool becoming just like every other superhero franchise. Indeed, with Reynolds making his intentions clear about bringing X-Force to the big screen, we could be looking at a whole new wave of R-Rated Marvel movies coming our way very soon....
