1) Keep Iron Man Out Of It
When the numerous trailers, TV spots and posters for Spider-Man: Homecoming were being unveiled, the constant, huge inclusion of Iron Man was a big talking point. The movie itself proved to be no different, with Tony Stark popping up constantly both in and out of costume. A useful narrative device he may have been, there was still no need for that much Iron Man in the film.
The sequel will need to rectify this, lest the MCU become even more overdependent on RDJ’s shoulders. Tom Holland did a great job of making his Spider-Man shine underneath the hulking shadow that Stark’s personality has cast over the MCU, but it will not be fair to make him have to compete with the character again and again as the series runs on.
We could hope, of course, that the studio may finally have flogged the character into a lifeless state and have him killed off in Avengers: Infinity War. In the event that we don’t get that lucky, however, it’s crucial that Marvel Studios learns that they don’t owe Stark anything anymore. He may have kicked the MCU off so successfully nearly a decade ago, but plenty of pairs of more capable hands have emerged since then!
