10 Things We Learned From The New Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer

This is one of the biggest years ever for the comic book movie genre. With the last appearance of Wolverine, the first solo movie for Wonder Woman and the assembly of the Justice League, it might have been hard for yet another Spider-Man movie to stand out. Thankfully, though, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming that was released a few months ago got us hugely excited for it and somehow, the newly-released second trailer, which dropped this morning, is even better.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming gave the impression that Tony Stark would be a pretty major player in the movie, and this preview gives us a better look at his role. As it turns out, he’ll be integral to the film’s plot.

After inviting him into the Avengers’ battle in Civil War, Tony will clearly act as Peter’s guide into the world of superhero’ing. In contrast to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s wallcrawlers, who had to figure things out on their own, Tom Holland’s version has Tony to show him the way. Peter will clearly idolize Tony in this movie and, when his mentor casts him out, that’s when we get Spider-Man as we know him

Obviously, the trailers have emphasized Tony’s role here because Marvel fans love a bit of Robert Downey Jr. And the fact that Tony disowns Peter for a significant part of the movie suggests he’ll disappear for the film’s middle section. However, it’s clear that Stark’s role is no gratuitous cameo – even an extended one – and he’s clearly one of the main players of the movie.

If nothing else, his major presence here acts as a welcome reminder that, yes, Spider-Man really has come home.
