Paul Dini’s Heart of Hush is an unheralded masterpiece. For those unfamiliar with the five-issue storyline, it features the return of Tommy Elliot (Hush) as he targets the people closest to Batman. In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, the bandaged villain kidnaps Selina Kyle and surgically removes her heart, leaving the Dark Knight with several clues and challenges to complete in order to save her.

Drama aside, Dini beautifully captured the unspoken love between Bruce and Selina in this arc. The stoic Batman showed fear and genuine worry as he knew the stakes were higher than they’ve ever been. He couldn’t fail, because he’d lose his beloved Selina forever.

Ben’s Bat is in need of a love interest right now, so it’s only natural to introduce Catwoman as the woman to tame the vigilante. What better way to show their cat-and-bat game than through a tense thriller where she’s in peril?
