Suicide Squad

The 12 Best Moments Of Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad has finally arrived and has proven to be another divisive entry into the DC Extended Universe. Once again, debates are raging within audiences about the merits and flaws of a comic book movie, and once again, Warner Bros. is busy deflecting blows from unimpressed film critics.

The Squad Lays Waste To The Demons

It’s their first deployment as a team, and they do not know what they are walking into. They have survived the crash of the helicopter they were being transported in, and are in the streets in the heart of the city, approaching a group of hostiles. As they gradually realize these hostiles are not exactly human, the seriousness of their situation begins to sink in.

The Squad are operating under threat of death – courtesy of explosive devices implanted in their necks. For this reason they wait, belligerently, for instruction from Colonel Flag, whom they deeply resent. As Flag and his military colleagues assess the situation, Deadshot uses his eye-piece to get a closer look at the creatures, who suddenly begin to attack.

Each Squad member springs into action – Deadshot shooting as necessary, Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) using his weaponry to slice and dice, Katana (Karen Fukuhara) slashing as she goes, Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) dismantling demon bodies, and Harley Quinn shooting and beating her way through the crowd. The demons begin to swarm around Flag and drag him away – a sight which Harley smiles at, and says, “Good riddance.” She is perfectly willing to let Flag perish, until Deadshot reminds her that if Flag dies, they all die – so she reluctantly joins the Squad in rescuing the soldier.

Suddenly, the Squad really let rip – with the exception of El Diablo, who continues to keep his pyrokinetic powers under wraps. Harley swings and swipes with her baseball bat – demolishing demon after demon in a frenzied onslaught – and Deadshot rains bullets down upon the creatures with fearsome intensity.

This is the first moment we really see the Squad working together as a team, and it is a great sequence. Using the action to bring out character elements and relationship dynamics among the group, this first showdown is a highpoint in the movie’s narrative.
