Ranking 2015’s 10 Highest Grossing Movies From Worst To Best

While reviews are obviously still a very important factor in their success, all anyone seems to care about these days is how much a movie ends up making. Box office receipts have of course always been important, but as more and more releases manage to earn upwards of $1 billion worldwide, that's become the figure to hit in order to truly be considered a success by the majority of analysts.

Worldwide Box Office: $1.7 billion and counting (#1)

What else? While Star Wars: The Force Awakens has faced a fair bit of criticism due to its apparent similarities to A New Hope, J.J. Abrams’ decision to pay homage to a movie that he and every fan of Star Wars loves is easy to forgive. After all, if the divisive prequels taught us anything, it’s that there are a lot of worse things Episode VII could have done, and it’s thankfully far from the franchise killer that some worried it might be.

What The Force Awakens actually does is kick the door open to a lot of very exciting possibilities. Now that Abrams has reintroduced us to this world and a lot of new and familiar faces, Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow have the opportunity to take everything we saw in this movie in some amazing and unexpected directions, and it’s that which we should perhaps be most grateful for; fans are excited about Star Wars again.

Back to this instalment though, and there’s just so much to love that it should be obvious why it deserves to be considered the best of these 2015 releases. Whether it’s the emotionally complex Kylo Ren, the fact we finally have a female lead wielding a lightsaber, or it giving us all one final adventure with Han Solo thirty years on, Star Wars: The Force Awakens deserves to be #1 both at the box office and with movie fans.
