2) International Gangs Invade The Purge In America
I absolutely love this idea because for me, I immediately think The Purge: Anarchy meets The Warriors. What happens if we live in this dystopian world where all of the most vile, criminally insane, and brutally unforgiving international deviants are sick and tired of waiting for their own national Purge – or better yet, it’s ruled illegal everywhere but America – so they all hop on planes, pack some gear, round up a gang, and land on US soil only with the intention of mass murder once a year.
To me, this is an epic B-Movie waiting to happen that gets away from some of the political ideology of DeMonaco’s previous works, entering grindhouse territory where America becomes nothing but a warzone. You’ve got the cheeky British bruisers who love nothing more than bare-knuckle beatings, maybe some German Neo-Nazis who love carving people up – hell, maybe a group of deranged Canadian Mounties who ride moose around while drinking maple syrup spiked with whiskey. The creativity level here is ridiculous, and there’s absolutely no limit to the outlandish personalities you can dream up for each nation. Yakuza, KGB – take your pick of organized killers.
So where does a story come in? In my mind, America gets sick of all the foreign scum making a mockery out of their Purge. Instead of driving crime down, all it’s done is attract low-lives from other countries to our great nation, turning cities into inhabitable slums all year round. So how do we respond? Reciprocation. America builds its own team of trained badasses whose sole mission is eradication of these foreign gangs. From here, maybe a challenge is issued and a Killer Olympics of sorts is established, with each gang competing against one another, or maybe the Americans have only one Purge night to swiftly dispatch of their targets while other purgers roam free, presenting numerous obstacles.
Based on DeMonaco’s comments, this is the least likely to happen, because he wants these films working in two ways, but again, imagine The Warriors but with souped-up weaponry, badder attitudes, and a whole lot of gritty violence. Screw The Expendables – here’s your action fix.
