5 Movies To See In April

Now that March is past us and April has begun, moviegoers are faced with the tough decision of planning out which film's box office numbers they're going to help inflate this month. There are a ton of great films coming our way over the next 30 days, and figuring out which ones are worth your money may seem like a daunting task. In order to help you make up your mind, I've put together this list of 5 must-see films releasing over the course of the month. There are certainly some other quality films hitting theatres, but these are the 5 you need to make sure you don't miss. So without any further ado, read on for our list of 5 movies to see in April. Evil Dead Horror fans have been excited for Fede Alvarez's remake of The Evil Dead basically since it was announced. Excitement began to build when the first Evil Dead trailer hit the web, but when the second red band trailer dropped, the internet blew up with ecstatic horror giddiness and rumours about the contents of the film. Few people are more excited than my co-writer Matt Donato though, who wrote a whole list of reasons why you should share his excitement. I won't go into the depth he did about the film, but to summarize it, you should be very excited. As if the trailers aren't enough of a reason to be looking forward to the film, just look at the response from SXSW. Our review is very positive, as is most every other. This looks to be one of the premiere horror films of this year, with only a few possible others that could possibly contend for the title, and we've still got a few months until any of those hit theatres. So if you're looking to see a great horror flick, Evil Dead is your best bet. Evil Dead hits theaters April 5. Deadite or not, you should be there. Trance Danny Boyle's Trance is finally getting a limited release this month, so that means moviegoers in many major cities will get a chance to see this film. And if you aren't in a city where it's playing, perhaps now's a good time for a vacation. Trance has been getting some glowing reviews from many critics and our review doesn't deviate from those praising the film. As with Evil Dead, I was completely sold on this film after seeing the most recent red band trailer. It looks absolutely brutal. If you haven't seen it yet, and you're still on the fence of whether Trance is for you, check out the trailer so you can see that yes, you have to find a theater where you can see this film. This is the second must-see film of April 5, so make sure you have your wallets ready. Jurassic Park 3D I honestly can't say whether the 3D will improve the film or add anything to the viewing experience at all. But guess what, even if the 3D doesn't add a thing, the opportunity to again see Jurassic Park on the big screen is one that no one should pass up. It's one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time, and certainly the best film for any dinosaur lover. After years of loving the film and how it looks on small TV screens, the thought of seeing that T-Rex glare down at me from a giant screen is overwhelmingly exciting. I really don't need to sell you on the story, since everyone knows how great of a film this is. April 5 looks to be the biggest day for movies this month. I know this is the 3rd of the 5 I'm recommending to fall on the same day, but with this kind of lineup, where would you rather be than your local theatre for 7 hours? 42 Jackie Robinson is as rich a subject for a biopic as Hollywood could hope for. Not only was he a pretty darn good baseball player (and we know audiences love a good baseball movie), but he also happens to be one of the most significant faces of the civil rights movement. While I'm excited to see Chadwick Boseman as Robinson in 42, what I'm most excited for is Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey. Rickey is one of the most colorful and iconic characters in the history of the game, and it'll be very interesting to see Ford's portrayal of him. Period pieces are always worth checking out, and considering the best we've seen so far this year is probably Gangster Squad, it'll be good to see how director Brian Helgeland handles the 1940s. 42 hits theaters April 12. Pain & Gain The more trailers that have dropped for Pain & Gain, the more excited I am to see it. Michael Bay is back to doing what Michael Bay should do - fun movies with no Transformers or Shia LaBeouf. He's got Mark Wahlberg, lots of bikinis, and a less than perfect heist. If that isn't a recipe for success, I honestly don't know what is. I never pass up a chance to see a Wahlberg film these days, and Anthony Mackie has proved himself quite the talented actor as well. While I'm not the biggest fan of the Dwayne Johnson, I'm willing to tolerate him in order to watch those other two at work. There probably won't be any Oscar nominations coming out of this film, but hey, we can appreciate movies that aren't serious and dramatic some of the time right? This is the last must-see I have of this month's releases, and it's much lighter than the rest.
