5 Movies To See In October

October is here, fall is in full swing, and most importantly, the main string of weekends with award-contending films has finally begun. Between the excellent horror that comes naturally with Halloween's looming presence and the awards races that are beginning to take form, October is always a great time for movies, and this year doesn't look like it'll be any different.

Ridley Scott. Cormac McCarthy. Brad Pitt. Michael Fassbender. Javier Bardem. Penelope Cruz. Cameron Diaz. Do I even need to write any more?

Okay, fine, I will. I’ve been thrilled for The Counselor since the moment it was announced that Cormac McCarthy would be writing the script. While this is technically his first screenplay that’s being turned into a film, he originally wrote The Road and No Country For Old Men as screenplays and then adapted them into novels. This guy knows his way around writing a movie.

The trailers for The Counselor all look phenomenal so far, especially with Brad Pitt back in his trademark bad-boy role. As great as films like Moneyball are, Pitt’s always more fun to watch in something a bit more rugged.

Then there’s Mr. Fassbender, who is without a doubt one of the most exciting actors currently working in Hollywood. With him at the lead role, there should be little hesitation about whether or not this is worth your time. I could definitely see the nominations rolling in for this one, and possibly a golden statue or two headed its way. You’re not going to want to be the one to miss it on the big screen.
