5 More Superhero Duels That Fans Would Love To See After Batman V Superman

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is not due to be released until March 25th, 2016, but the hype is already well underway. Last month, Comic-Con gave us our first look at Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and thanks to one particularly sneaky fan, the internet finally received a glimpse of the actual teaser trailer. Sure, the low quality footage was taken down faster than a speeding bullet, but that didn’t stop fans worldwide from having a giant geekgasm in anticipation.

Iron Man and Captain America are similar in many ways; both heroes are core members of the Avengers, both are flagship characters for Marvel and both have enjoyed huge success on the big screen in recent years. However, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are actually far more different than they first appear…

Back in 2006, Marvel Comics linked their core books with a crossover event named Civil War that divided every major character into two opposing camps. Those that believed superheroes should officially register with the government were led by Iron Man, but those who wished to maintain their secret identities followed Captain America. The conflict culminated in a large-scale battle between the two opposing forces, which led to Rogers beating Stark into submission before finally surrendering.

An adaptation of Civil War would be a fanboy’s dream, although ownership issues over certain characters would require a heavy rewrite in the translation from the source material to the big screen. However, even if Civil War is never adapted, there’s still a lot of potential in pitting Iron Man and Captain America against one another in their own movie. The seeds have already been sown in The Avengers, which shows the two regularly arguing over the best way to approach different situations, so it would certainly be believable to see them both physically come to blows.

Civil War ended with the death of Captain America in the comics. Could this be a potential avenue to explore when Chris Evans finally gives up the spandex? It very well could be.
