6 Must-See DC Animated Movies

DC comic book fans have plenty to be excited about, as Warner Bros. recently unveiled plans for their very own cinematic universe, which could even rival the phenomenal success of Marvel if handled right. Everyone knows that the internet is full of trolls though, so many are already deriding the future of the company's silver screen ventures on the basis of just one release to date. Whether you love or hate Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is ultimately irrelevant though. Even Madame Xanadu would struggle to predict the quality of the upcoming releases before they've been made, so fans will just have to wait patiently and pass judgement when the time comes.

2) Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)

If there’s one complaint that can be made about the DC Comics Animated Line, it’s that the company relies far too heavily on Batman and Superman, making these two iconic heroes the focus for the vast majority of their movies. What’s so refreshing about this particular Justice League movie is that despite featuring both of these characters in key supporting roles, Flashpoint Paradox is ultimately a film about the Flash, exploring the impact of his mother’s death.

After accidentally altering the past, the Flash awakens in a new reality to discover that the Justice League never formed and that the world is now caught in a war between Aquaman’s Atlantean forces and Wonder Woman’s Amazonian army. This plot sets the stage for huge, grand-scale battles which are guaranteed to thrill any DC comic book fan who enjoys seeing their favorite heroes pitted against one another.

More importantly, though, The Flashpoint Paradox is also full of heart. The trauma that the Flash feels over his mother’s demise is genuinely touching and it’s heart-wrenching to see beloved characters cut down in the heat of battle, even though the viewer knows that this is all happening in an alternate reality.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox may lack the mature themes explored in some of the other movies featured on this list, but if you’re looking for classic superhero storytelling with a modern twist, then look no further.
